The Lift Control handle of the 2000 got very stiff to operate. The Hydraulics worked fine but it was very hard to raise or lower the control handle. I thought that maybe the friction disc being old might be the problem so I removed it. But with the handle and friction disc off the Control lever shaft will not move. Hoping someone here might steer me in the right direction.

it is possible you are getting corrosion sticking between the shaft and housing. Probably best to get a top cover kit ( gaskets and orings ) and pul that top cover and attack from the inside.

Though you can disassemble the quadrant rail, and carefully pull the outter portion of the 3pt lift lever and friction disc off, and MAYBEE get lucky with a can of kroil spray.

Do that first.. see what it gets you.

Thank you souNdguy. Heard you were the Ford guru. I will probably go with the top cover kit. Is there anything that will fall apart inside if I unbolt the top cover and lift straight up? I can use a wrench and have decent common sense but am not a mechanic.

Its just heavy, and a hair aggravating getting the 3pt knuckles apart sometimes.

In trying to remove the lift cover I have disconnected the 3pt. knuckles and removed all bolts. Is there a trade secret to breaking the seal between the lift cover and the tractor body? So far I haven't gotten it to move. Hope someone can help.

Hoping someone sees above post for assistance on removing the lift cover from my Ford 2000. Not sure if it just takes getting rough with it but don't want to break something.

I wanted to reply so as to not waste anyone's time. I found some forum post from 2010 that addressed my problem and was able to remove the lift cover using a 2x4 and hydraulic jack. I appreciate all of the help up to this point.

that was going to be my sugestion.. in fact.. may have been my post. let gravity work for you.. jack up a 2x4 under a lift ear at the rear enough to unload a tire.. then just let it set usually pops free.. ocasionally needs more help at the seal area.

It was in fact your post. It took hardly any pressure and came right off. It looks like I finally have everything on the Control Lever Shaft free and clear. I was thinking that I should be able to turn the shaft with the lift cover on the work bench but with the cam design and hooked to all the linkage I don't think that is possible. Plan to put everything back together this afternoon. Thanks again for you help. It sure is nice having someone with your kind of knowledge still around.

that lift cover is a hard booger to clamp in a vice.

I used to use a big angle iron L that had a couple holes drilled in it. I'd put the leg of the L in the vice, and then bolt one side of the lift cover to the tall leg of the L that is now horizontal. it was a 4" piece of angle.. Havn't had a lift cover off in 4-5 years no, so havn't used it lately.

With that jig you could get it in the proper plane of operation and observe from the underside. You can even rig up an air line to run the rig if you get inventive enough. :)
