1963 Ford 4000 fuel system parts questions

Here's a pic of the tractor a bit before I bought it - before new fenders were received and installed. Not sure if it shows what you might have been looking for (I can take another pic or two tomorrow if needed).

Looking further, the serial number I have shown would actually reflect a '64 model, vice a '63... but I suspect that doesn't really matter much at this point now....

Things get switch around on these old fords quite a bit. Lets have a look at the rear of the tractor

The rear appears to be either a late 801 or 4000. The top link is recessed in the case. The 601/2000 was not. The ribs that run across the case parallel to the bolts didn't come out until about 1960 /1961. The axle tumpets should have production and date codes on them as well as the engine, date code may be on the other side of the block.
Your tractor may have had an engine change, not uncommon. My 4000 HD forklift has a 134 engine in it, No biggy.

Ah - appreciate the info, Kirk! I'll have to take down the paint a bit under the engine model number on the right side to see what it shows... unless the "22" on the left side (visible in pic directly below oil filter) qualifies as the date code? Will look further over the axle trumpets as well...Good stuff! Right now, it runs like a sewing machine / champ, so I have no intention of changing anything with it...just trying to learn as much about it in order to preserve and maintain it for years to come. I need to get my hands on a good maintenance manual for it, to start with.

Definitely looking forward to getting it out to the farm and doing a little work with it. In your opinion, do you feel it would have any issues handling a 5-6 foot disc? I would think not. I know it should have no issues running a 5+ft bush hog for general clean up type work and light-moderate brush & saplings along wooded field edges and road shoulders...

it does have an oil filter conversion plate.. making it an earlier engine.

I also note lack of a fuel gauge and charge lamp / inclusiuon of a ammeter.. though tin swaps and gauge repalcements are easy.

Looks to have the large carb and ait tube.

alos.. it's ahrd to tell on my small screen.. but does anyone else see braze or weld bead behind the carb inthe COMMON crack out ara of the block?

This'n's probably a mutt.. but no biggie.

the heavy rear is nice.. .. it's safer to have a 134 enging on a heavy rear, than a 172/192 engine ont he light duty rear... etc..

Looking at the oil filter there should be a date code below it and toward the front of the bl;ock. Probably have a letter and numbers. No problem with a 5'/6' disc.

Very interesting info on this thread. I am new to the site and have just come into possession of a Ford 4000, 4 cylinder gas, 4 speed which i believe is a 63/64 model. Lots of info here to compare with what I have. This is a high clearance row crop machine and runs great. Having a little trouble right now with the ignition switch. Going tomorrow to check that out. I will start a thread as soon as I get some numbers and photos of my own.

ignition switch should be easy, simple on / off switch, if it can handle 5@/12v/ 60w it's fine.

I have a Ford 4000 farm tractor. It has a 3 cylinder diesel and a 10 speed select-o-matic transmission. Recently I have lost Reverse 2 and Forward gears 3,4,7,8 and 10. Reverse 1 and Forward gears 1,2,5,6 and 9 still work. Does anyone know what this symptom means and what it would take to repair? Is there any Ford service specialist out there? Thanks, Ken

welcome!

it would be great to start your very own thread instead of tacking onto one of a different topic, that way you can actually get some help.

Select o speed is your trans type.

here's a link to some trouble shooting tips on the SOS
