Well SG you've certainly given me a lot to consider, I appreciate all the info and the pics too. I really like that 850 with loader you have there.

My goal is to end up with 2 'keeper' tractors which I will rebuild and maintain until I'm too old to drive 'em anymore. One will be an 8n for the brush-hogging and garden chores. The other will be my utility workhorse for all the construction, landscaping, fencing, digging, etc. Right now I have the '65 3-cyl 3000 - I don't think it's going to be the 'keeper', but I can use it while I keep looking for a '62-'64 4-cyl 4000 with SOS, power steering and dual remotes.

I'm with you on the earlier Fords. Simple, robust, and easy to work on. I like the looks of 'em better than the newer square-nose models too. The older tractors had style. :D

There was a '64 Industrial 4000 on CL but it sold quickly. It had everything I want including a loader already on it. So I guess they are out there, I'll just have to keep my eyes peeled! :drink:

one you find one with ps and sos, you can always add the remotes. and PS. the 110$ add on power beyond plate, lets you then use a generic 200$ 2 spool OC valve, so your cost to add 2 new remote circuits is about 300$ plus hoses and connectors. vs 400$ used, or 900$ new for the oem style.

Yep I think I know what you're talking about, I've had several tractor guys tell me about a 'plate' that bolts on the top of the tunnel under the front of the seat that has fittings for remotes. My 3000 has the factory version with a control valve that is currently operating a 2-way single cylinder hydraulic dozer blade on the front, it has both upward and downward pressure. I was going to use those connections for my loader but was told it would be too weak, thus my current endeavor to connect a front loader pump to the crankshaft pulley. I have the nose of the tractor apart and the radiator is out so I'll be working on the front pulley hub problem this weekend.

Re: 1964 & earlier Ford 4000 & 800 series - What factory options were available?

the people that told you that it would be too weak were in error.

It would have plenty of strength. It's flow rate will be lower than a front pump.. but it's strength will be just fine.

rememebr in hyds.. strength is a function of pressure and cyl size.. and speed is a function of flow rate. you can have high psi and low flow and have a slow, strong loader.

many, many, many people get by running a loader from their onboard hyds if it is not for a commercial operation needing extra speed.

Re: 1964 & earlier Ford 4000 & 800 series - What factory options were available?

That makes sense. How much slower would it be? The dozer blade has a small single cylinder and it moves rather slow, the total travel is only about 12" up & down. Can I expect the loader to move even slower because of the added cylinders? They seem to be about the same diameter cylinders but much longer.

Oh, and would the hydraulic remote 'plate' on my 3000 fit on a pre '65 4000 or 801 series? Could I switch it over if I bought a 4000 without remotes?

pretty surte it is the same plate.

remember.. volume is tied to rpm.. more rpm = more volume
