~1965 Case 530- Starter?

I believe I've burned the solenoid up, but the starter was getting weak and I believe it'll cost me $200-$300 to rebuild the one on it, can I get something better/cheaper? It got to the point that I couldn't get it to crank fast enough with a good battery, being charged by a vehicle (14v) and 4ga jumper wire from post to starter post.

I think its a 1965 Case 530 with loader/hoe

I've found this guy on ebay but I haven't pulled mine out of the tractor yet

Just be careful to get the correct number of teeth on the starter bendix, especially if it's a 188 diesel engine. The older engines used a 9 tooth bendix. If no one has ever changed the flywheel ring gear and your starter has the 9 tooth, a 10 tooth (which is MUCH more popular) will NOT work.

Thanks for the advice, I was able to salvage the original starter, I will keep your advice in the back of my mind for when I need to replace the starter. Hopefully I don't have to. I see what you mean by the 10 tooth being more popular.

I have a 64 Case 530 CK with the Gasoline engine. any advice on where to find a Replacement Starter or even a rebuild kit?

I don't know that I've ever seen rebuild kits available. Check around and see if you have a local rebuild shop. Unless the armature is toast, it doesn't cost that much to have them rebuilt. We're very fortunate to have a great shop near by. He charges $35, plus parts needed. With bearings, new brushes, etc. it's normally around $60. Along with that, he cleans up the armature, blasts the case, and paints it, with a 1 year warranty. Turn around is normally 24 hrs.
