I changed the engine oil on my Ford 2000 3 cyl diesel tractor and put the specified 8 quarts of oil in the engine. The dip stick showes it to be over filled after sitting idle for a day. Do I have the capacity correct?
How much overfilled? In those days the dipstick was marked with an "Add" line which was later changed to a "Safe" range. Casting variations caused the standard factory fill to occasionally fall below the old "Add Oil" line resulting in a lot of warranty claims for low oil (but none for too much). It has to be significantly overfilled to be a concern. If it's just a bit its probably just fine.
