1979 Case 580C shuttle transmission slow to engage in forward when cold

/ 1979 Case 580C shuttle transmission slow to engage in forward when cold #11
I have the 580B CK backhoe 1974. I have the same problem where I have to let it warm up ten minutes plus before the transmission will even try to engage. Mine only has the one place to check the trany fluid right in front of the gear shifter a big 1" or so nut when you remove it it has a dip stick. Not sure if this is right or not but I always check trany fluid cold and not running ??? Directly below the shifter on the under side of the transmission is the plug to drain the trany. On mine the plug is a 1" nut that is super thin and the wrench will not grip it very deeply. I was about to grind the face of one of my five 1" wrenches that I tried and all were not getting a good grip when I was able to find a 1" socket that worked fine. Now going towards the motor from this drain plug is another drain plug at the transmission bell housing this one drains you torque converter. I went so far as to blow out the cooling lines that go to the radiator too I took off the two lines at the trany bell housing that go up to the radiator now I know they are clean and circulating alrught. Now after you will your trany with new fluid and drive it around some you will have to recheck and add trany fluid again to replace the torque converter and radiator. If it is left outside and your shifter boot is bad all the rain water runs down your shifter lever and finds it's way into your old shifter boot and runs smoothly right into your trany. This is my second used tractor I have done this too and what comes out when I drain them would make you sick to see. water gowey nasty clumps. Both had badly worn shifter boots on the 580B CK I could have put two of thumbs in the hole at once after the boot it is a straight shot into your tranny for rain, mud, junk, and dirt sits right on top of the shifter ball. I think the trany fluid we are using in this type transmission is to thick and that's why they do not move until things are really heated up. Ten whole minutes to be able to move is not right something is wrong. Really this is a heavy duty automatic transmission and cars and trucks with automatics they use regular transmission fluid. I am about ready to bid on a service manual for this 580B Case backhoe. I have it on CD but I am looking for a more defined repair and maintanace book How much my machine weighs? Fluid types for today's fluids. Does and don'ts Thank _ YOU All for this site I love it......

I know this is an old thread but on the 580C, you should probably pull the pan off the shuttle transmission and clean the pickup strainer if you haven't already. I'll try and attach a diagram so you can see that it's a simple task.
