Case 580C
I need help. Well, thats what my wife tells me anyway. I just bought this backhoe in the fall. I'm totally green on this stuff. bought it to do some work around the place. You might say that he forgot to kiss me first.
My problem is that when I put it drive wether first or second gear, By the way its a power shuttle. It goes fine as long it is on level ground. If I have to go on any kind of incline it struggles real bad. first gear it hardly moves, 2nd gear if I give it the gas it goes.but slowly. Changed the trans fluid 3 times. The level is up there. Do you think I have clutch problems? I did see a bad oil leak around the solonoid, Could this have something to do with it? The RPM gauge was disconnected years ago. The wiring is a mess. But I'm gaining on that. The work has to be done by me. cant afford otherwise. The plus side is the hydrolics work good, all pins are tight, digs good, the bucket good too. A little leak by the vale body. And no play on the hoe when moving side toside. Its foot operated for side movement. Thats it. I'm in your hands.
Thank You

It could be the oil leak but more likely the shuttle clutch pack is fried. They are super easy to overhaul really. Shops shouldn't charge too much for it either. I hope. I haven't worked at a tractor dealer in about 10 years now. That's a good model you have.

WTA, does the 580C have a torque converter? Is it possible that the torque converter is slipping instead of the shuttle clutch?

The 580C does have a torgue convertor and it's possible it could be slipping.
It's more likely that the powershuttle needs an overhaul. The 580C was a great machine, it revolutionized the way most companies looked at building backhoes, but that early powershuttle was a bit of a weak link.

A good overhaul on the powershuttle, a new transmission pump (located in the front of the powershuttle just an auto trans on a car), and a new torque convetor will have you spinning tires with plenty of power for years to come!

tdibar,

you may want to check out prices from these folks. Case 580 Backhoe Power Shuttle Parts

I'm not affiliated with them in any way and have never done business with them, but the prices are very appealing.

Hope this helps.

Eh Guys, Thank You for taking the time to try and helping Me, One who is totaly green in this stuff. As soon as the weather breaks where I'm able to lay on my back and do the work myself. I have no other options. I'm able to turn wrenches, and read a manual. I bought this thing in order to do some work around the place. contractors wanted too much. I paid $ 6,000 for it.I already put on new drive tire, Done extensive wiring, it was awfull. I still have to hookup the RPM cable, its not there. As well as the Hours. Looks like it got disconneted at 6800. I changed all fluids twice in hopes to clean things out.
You know I saw all these things later at home when I really tried to use it. His place was level and mine has inclines. Thats when I started to ask questions to myself. And I believe thats when the light came on. I got my hand caught in the door again. I believe in the good Lord and he will get his by someone smarter then me. But right now I have to move on and make the best of things. Not all people are bad. And you guys are proof of that. Who are willing to take their time and try to help someone else. I'm able to use it, But it goes slow; real tough up hill. I will let you know on my progress.

I think I have a manual for the 580c around here somewhere. It's not of much use to me on my 580k.

I didn't come across it but I'm sure I didn't throw it out. I'm not sure if it's a 580c or a 580ck manual. I figured once I put my hands on it I could find out for sure. It's a factory manual and even if it's for the ck I think it'll still help you out.

take your time, dont go crazy looking for it. Cause sometimes you'll pick it up several times and still say where is it? I still have 3ft of snow outside, So I'll have plenty of time to read it first, Before I get into trouble, At least it will keep my wife quite. Knowing I'm doing something about it. I hate that look she gives.

I spent some time looking for it with no luck, it's kind of bothering me now. I know it's around here somewhere. I did find the full set of manuals for a 1999 Saturn SL1 (3 binders of 3 to 4 books in each). It'll turn up.

I certainly do apreciate your efforts. Welcome to my world. Sometimes I have to do a 20 min. job, But takes me half a day looking for the tools. I've been reading some of the other diff. threads posted. And I've got to say thats its a privilege for me to be at TBN. Thank You all for helping each other. It feels like a family.I hope that at some point in time I'm able to reciprocate. There is hope for us after all.

I have a Case 580C with a oil leak dripping out from the cover over the torque convert I have replaced the front seal on the power shuttle but still have the leak and after you drive it a short time it will not pull itself. Can the torque converter have a leak if so were would it be.
I would greatly appreciate the help!

tdibar, I am trying to buy a 1979 580C and need some info from that manual if Al ever got it to you. Please let me know, seems like they made some changes for the 1980 model and I have that op manual but they are not the same. Thanks...first post BTW

If it's a parts manual you're looking for, you can find it on line here:Official Case Construction Equipment Online Parts Store and Parts Look Up. Parts for Case Equipment and Construction Equipment. Parts Store for Case Wheel Loaders, Case Excavators, Case Skid Steers, Case Original Parts.

Select the 580 you're looking for, then go from there. Changes seem to be a serial number breaks listed on the parts pages. Even at that, Case was infamous for using up what stock they had left, before doing a change over, not necessarily matching that serial number break. Found that out on my 480C, which shares many parts used on the 580's.

I have a Case 580C that won't move on any kind of an incline in 3rd or 4th gears. Is the shuttle pack the transmission or is separate from the transmission?? I'm new and clueless to this type of machine and am learning as I go. 1st, 2nd & reverse seem to be fine. Any info would be greatly appreciated. BTW this machine is new to me. Please HELP
