1979 JD 850 2wd PTO stopped working....

I have a 1979 JD 850 2wd with a 3T80J motor. Earlier this year the pto stopped working so I parked it till now. Where do I start so as to establish a diagnosis for this problem? I imagine that I have to remove the seat cover of the back end so as to see what is going on? Is there anything I should be careful of when removing said cover? Thank you!!!

Tell us more about what "quit working" means pls. Never works or always engaged ??

Assume yours is a two-stage clutch so you have a live PTO. Is that your case ??

I have to clutch to put the pto and tramission in gear and when I clutch the pto and transmission stops turning.... And now even when I try to engage the pto it does not turn.... i will recheck my manual to make sure of what I just wrote....
