I can run a straight edge past the starter and it does not stick out past the plate mounting surfaces. The solenoid sticks out a little, but I would think the bracket would not be that high. My tractor started it's life on a large factory farm near Lapeer Michigan as a loader tractor... to say it was badly treated would be an affront to John Deeres that were treated badly. The poor thing had all it's loader bolt holes striped out, elongated, etc.. by op's that could care less about it and probably never cared about tightening the loader mounting bolts. But, after some tender care, it is in a better place now.... even get's a blankie.... If you look in the EBAY listing, this starter is supposed to fit just about any JD and other stuff in that era.... [ not that it might mean anything in the real world ] Good luck, Jerry ...![]()
Thanks Jerry, I was worried about the right side plate might be an issue. Your tractor does not look like it had a bad life.
My 2030 came from Ohio. I bought it from a very small implement dealer. Rear fender had about rusted off and the hood sports many dents. I am sure it was used hard in it's previous life. It had a small JD 175 loader on it that the dealer had removed and sold separately. Luckily the side plates were left and the ported oil filter cover too. I wish it had the Power Reverser trans and optional larger hydraulic pump. I am glad it came with the HD front axle, down exhaust and spinout rear wheels.
