Been looking at buying a used truck, was leaning toward a newer Chevrolet HD gas motor, have been presented with an option to buy a 7.3 litre diesel 4x4 that has been taken good care of, I've never owned a diesel and was wondering have these been good ones? I would appreciate any information, good or bad. Thanks, Charlie.

If the miles are low and price was right no fear on the 7.3 . Super easy to keep running not much to every go wrong . I have 5 of them . Would buy another in a heart beat .

I had an '88 with the 7.3 and 5 speed manual trans. It got good fuel mileage, around 20 mpg. This is a non-turbo engine and is pretty low on power compared to what you can get now. It's also very simple compared to the electronic engines.

Awesome truck and engine! I have an 89, easy to work on, my only battle is rust up here!

I have owned my '97 forever. Tough, dependable, strong, fuel expensive but 12-14.5gpm pulling an 18' bp trailer with a 6000# load. The truck is an F250. I maintain it every 7500 miles. I'm more than pleased. Oh, and about 4weeks ago a guy walked up while I was fueling and offered me $12,000.00. Nope, nada, no!

Your truck must of had at least 7000.00 in the glove box along with the 100.00 dollars worth of fuel.

Low mileage and no rust I'd pay 12k all day! New trucks, let alone diesels are crazy today!

Na, but this truck's interior and exterior looks very good, operates very well, with only 165,000 miles. The guy that offered said he was aware of how well I maintain the complete truck, and looked up on NADA and said it was worth $8800 on the low end and $13,200.00 on the high end. I have a matching camper shell, GN and 5th wheel hitches and wiring, multi-height receiver hitched, 2000 watt power inverter. So he felt the truck would be worth that. I haven't even looked. Not for sale or trade. Probably my last vehicle.
