1989 Ford f super duty (f450)

I have the opportunity to buy a 1989 Ford f super duty its a little dump truck with a manual transmission and a mechanical pto but the problem is its a 460 gas. I don't know the pros and cons about this truck model. I have a 02 chevy 3500cc with a automatic, 6.0 gas dump truck. I love the truck but hate the transmission. Any thoughts on swapping trucks. I'm looking for fuel mileage. Mine now gets between 5 and 8 miles to the gallon with a 26 gallon tank.

That's funny. Interested in a 80's dump truck with a 460 and worried about gas mileage. My guess is it will get the same mileage.

I have a 3500 C/K 3500 crew cab dually w/454 and a Dodge 2500 w/V10. They get about the same mileage. I did not buy them for fuel mileage capabilities.

I’m going to jump on board and say your fuel mileage shoukd be way down the list of things to worry about. I’d worry more about the condition of the truck body, engine, transmission, dump body and hydraulics. If you put a lot of miles on it I’d try and find a diesel.

Or just put a smaller gas motor in it. I don't know Fords, but they probably make a nice six that will bolt right in. Our old Chevy dump truck has a small 6 cylinder gasser. It gets around just fine in the mountains with a split-shifting manual. Not fast, but inexpensive and reliable.

This truck BA. new gas around 1.25 a gallon. "12 MPG. Hwy." pulliing a Ranger bass boat. Running the 65 MPH. Speed limit. It's a 01 F-250 with a 5.4 4Spd. Auto. 373 Towing Package. 39 Gal. tank! ATL. to Disney non stop when the Gas light come on. 390 miles so I still had gas.
Father retired from Ford Credit and this is a Factory 148 mph pickup. True. AKA My who's your Daddy truck. I get asked that often where I got it.
True on performance! Factory.....@ dealer cost and the Ford A plan also LOL..... The dealer offered dodge also with the Start of the new RAM. and the salesman ordered it!! True.... The owner of the dealership H-No!! and offered it to him. The 5-8 MPH sounds typical! Hurt some feeling in it for sure......

A 1989 Ford F-450 with the 460 gas engine typically gets around 8-10 miles per gallon (mpg) in mixed driving conditions.

We had a new '88 F-Super Duty with a 7.3 diesel and 5 speed manual. Had a 5.13 axle ratio. Good truck, low on power. I believe with the 460 they came with a 4.88 axle ratio.
