There is nothing wrong with a 2wd. They still get tons of work done. And for traction... if you stick a 15,000 lb. machine off in a hole... your stuck whether it's 2 or 4wd. That hoe stick will get you out of more binds than 4wd.
As far as the "front wheel assist" .... I don't know. That sounds like 4wd to me... but obviously that isn't right.
