I blew a hydraulic line yesterday using the back hoe. It was really irritating because I had put in a bit of time yesterday hauling debris out of my pasture & yard - - I had saved an oak stump from Katrina for the end of the day. I was looking forward to the BH work, but did not get beyond 5 minutes of worrying that stump before I saw the mist in the air. Bummer. It took me a while to find the leak. It was the outlet hose - - the one that curves around & reconnects to the tractor when the BH is removed.
I had several chores with the CEO today & it was this afternoon before I could tackle the problem again. I finally got the line off the tractor & took it to a hydraulic place in town. They made up a new one for $10. OK so far. All I have to do is take off the quick-connect & put it on the new line. Well, I pretty much verified that I’m not as strong as I used to be - - I could not break that quick-connect loose. Finally gave up & drove the 8 miles to the local hardware store & asked for help. Using a vice & a pipe wrench, we finally got it off. I often buy stuff there rather than go to Lowe’s or HD - - the owner was happy to help.
That’s where my day ended - - I should be able to put things back together tomorrow. We’ll see. I don’t know how much fluid I lost.

BTW I got the BX 22 in April of 2003, & I’m about 2 hours short of 600 hours. I can’t really complain. Most of my other problems are the ones everyone else knows - - air cleaner strap & fuel leak, etc.

I've got about the same number of hours on my BX22. I've replaced 2 hoses so far. One was on the loader and that was easy. the other one was a steering hose that ran from the steering wheel to beside and under the engine to the piston by the wheel. That was a tough one. Those are just normal wear and tear items. I think the manual states to start checking them at 200 hours. Both of mine were replaced at a hydraulic shop and they replaced the fittings when they made the hose. I just had to put the new hose on.
