Tractor
An orange one
Greetings all! It seemed to take forever to get my account approved, but here I am, glad to be here, and it seems like there are a lot of real nice people on here willing to share advice and their tractor experience. I got rid of my Harley last Saturday and bought a L4400 with a FEL & block heater. I only rode the Harley about 3 times per summer and now in about 1 year we will be living on a gravel road. It will take about 3 weeks for the L4400 to come in, so I have been reading all the posts and can't wait. I feel like a young kid waiting for Christmas to open his packages. I also purchased a DR Field & Brush Mower for the tight spots and it should be arriving this week. It is a walk behind mower with a brush hog blade and 17 hp Kawasaki engine on it. My wife and I purchased 16.4 acres of prairie remnant (never been tilled before) in the beautiful Loess Hills in Northwest Iowa about a year ago. So after our prairie burn last summer we have been standing by watching the sumac and dogwood grow. I will be purchasing a brush/bush hog soon. Can't quite make up my mind which brand to go with, thinking either Woods or KingKutter from TSC. I've got a bunch of timber I've had a guy clearing off a little bit at a time with a Bobcat and tree shear and he also has a huge rotating cutter shredder on the front that can chew about anything up. He charges $160 per hour so I would like to see what I can do to ameloriate those costs. I've already learned tons on here by reading posts in the last week or two. I owned a Jubilee, but decided to trade that in and got my cost out of it. I didn't have the time to do a complete restoration like I wanted. I'm a cancer survivor and there's only so much time in life and I would like to spend that working rather than wrenching. I am so glad to be getting out of the city and in the country I can't tell you how good that feels. I love the smell of the country, the prairie flowers, and all the wildlife. Can't beat it. I'm 51 years young and hope to be sitting on that tractor when I'm 81. It maybe seems like the L4400 is a lot of tractor for only 16 acres, but I'm sure there will be plenty of things I can find a use for it. Anyway, nice to be here!

You,re going to have the best time of your life on that tractor. The fun is seeing what you accomplished after putting 8 hours in the seat. You will be suprised what can be done once you get operating that tractor. Best of luck in you endeavors...

Kubota4Me,

Welcome to TBN! You will find a great community here.

There must be something about hitting 50 and saying good bye to the Harley. I owned a '98 Harley Heritage Springer and put less and less miles on it each year. In 2003, I sold it and purchased a new Kubota Grand L3430 HSTC. Each year I am putting more and more hours on it.

Enjoy your new Kubota tractor!

I too am a young man that has recently retired due to circumstances beyond my control (ain't it nice). My wife and I have 22 acres of pine trees with a house in the middle and 1000ft driveway. I bought a L4400 in 2005 and have been very pleased with it. I sometimes would like a bit more tractor and at others feel a smaller one would be better too but all in all it works for me.

I tell my friends that the tractor is cheaper than a shrink. When I get down I can just go out and ride around on the fire breaks for an hour or so if I want and that is better than any therapy I could have.

I am by no means an expert on the L4400 but if you have specific question please feel free to contact me.

May God Bless you and yours

Welcome to TBN... I have a L4400 with only 10 acres and would not trade it for the world. My property was cleared pines with alot of thrash left over. You will be amazed at what the tractor can do. Enjoy it and enjoy life while you use, it is amazing the therapy you get from being on a tractor all day working on your own property. If you have any questions about the tractor feel free to ask.

Welcome. I have 12 acres I bought 2 years ago. It had been pretty well let go. Half clear and half woods. I bought a DR Field and Brush mower also - same 17HP Kawasaki. Excellent choice. I now look at it like I paid the full amount of my land for the 6 cleared acres and the $2700'ish for the DR for the other 6 acres. It literally allowed me to reclaim 6 acres. You won't regret either purchase. My Kubota is my relaxant, my DR is my stress reliever. Instant gratification.

Thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome here. I went out to a local trailer/truck accessory store tonight to pickup my ramps for my DR Field & Brush Mower and the owner said he owned a DR Field & Brush Mower AND TWO Kubota tractors. He said having four wheel drive on a 30 hp tractor was like owning a 60 hp tractor. He took his roll bar off and fabricated his own roll bar further up on the tractor. He uses his tractor as a shag tractor, like a semi, and moves gooseneck trailers around with a trailer ball mounted on his three point. He merely lifts the three point up and then he doesn't even need to screw down the dollies on the trailer. Pretty neat use! He said he's got about every kind of implement made for the Kubotas so I may be checking his out before I buy. There must be a large Kubota community out there. Thanks again and I hope I don't bore you with some of my questions!

Do you feel like you just traded up from a Yugo to a Rolls Royce?:D I quit riding motorcycles a few months short of 49.:) My last one was a BMW, but the best ones were Hondas; never owned a Harley.
