2.7EB vs 3.5EB?

Yeah I know drilling a hole in the inter cooler seems like knocking a hole in the bottom of a boat to let the water out. It does work though and the hole is small enough its not a problem.

After those videos of the water pouring out, why would anyone not drill the hole. Too small to make a performance issue to me.

Yes, because the gm i own will be my last one...msny friends out of pocket on gm afm engines with no help from gm. swapping to Ford.

I also refuse to buy a truck that is built in Mexico - and to support a company that bails and moves there after receiving bail out money from us.

Check gm forums, loads of afm issues.

as a fellow Canadian you should know better the truth about that , but I will leave you to your misinformed biases

My VW has never had an issue. My oldest, the Tiguan is a 2010 with 105,000 miles. According to the internet it should have blown up from a bad timing chain tensioner by now too, LOL. And be plugged up with carbon, which the dealer will clean out for you at nice hefty price with their snake oil, LOL.

A lot of VW diesels had hydrolocking issues, VW went to a air to water intercooler on the Passat TDI and this solved the problem. Ford and others could do the same. But VW’s have had this issue. You could just loosen the connection and drain it every 6 months or so.

Why did the EPA ban the weeps on inter coolers?

Why did the EPA ban the weeps on inter coolers?

Crank case gasses are vented into the intake runner and sent back through to be burned in the combustion chamber. This wasn't a problem with port fuel injected engines as the income fuel charge would wash off baked on gook on the intake valves. However, when everybody switched over to direct injection, baked on gook piled up on the intake valves until engine efficiency decreased, starting became harder and rough idle became apparent. What many people have done is disconnect the case vent system from the intake and run a racing catch can for crank case vapors.

After all those videos of water pouring out would convince me not to purchase such a setup. It is flawed if that is happening. While not any Ecoboost thing, I have run turbo charged engines for several decades and never was this kind of thing an issue. It is poor engineering.

At least, as oppose to a shade tree "weep hole" solution, one should install some sort of petcock so that water/oil could be drained off manually periodically, thereby keeping the system closed when in operation to maximize efficiency of the setup.

Copperhead I’ve read where people have put some kind of fitting and valve on them but everything I’ve read says the little hole doesn’t hurt anything.

All the old turbo had a weep hole in them, and for this reason you never had this problem with turbos. You had other problems like the turbos coking up.
