2 dead rodents and baby snake hanging on my barbed wire fence- did a hawk do it?

My first start aleck thought was that the OP had ticked off a voodoo priest/priestess and it was nice knowing him.

I would be looking out for dolls with pins in them...... :laughing::laughing::laughing:

The hawks that live around us have never done anything like what is in the photos. Tis very odd.

Another vote for shrike. We have Northern Shrikes up here and get similar yard decorations on occasion.

I have never seen anything like that. We don't have Shrikes here. I was thinking that a person had to have done that until I saw the video. That is very interesting. I never would have known bout this bird if not for this thread. Thanks KYErik ...I'm amazed I suppose that the bird has the ability to take these mammals but is unable to consume them because of It's size. I stores the prey where ants will not find it quickly and feeds on it later.

I have also seen Shrikes go after baby rabbits that crawl out to the den entrance. And they will impale anything it can catch on barbs or thorns.

Do a quick search on the "butcher bird". The reason is simply to let the meat soften up a bit macabe as it may seem.

I had the same thing happen here with gophers, I had a hawk nest in the tree line so I think it was them, catching more than they could eat as in the Spring there are always plenty of the new baby gophers and quite easy.. like they say, " make hay when the sun shines", The upside of course they definitely kept the gopher population in check.
