#2 Diesel VS #2 Heating Fuel

Home heating oil can be cut with a bit of solvents, making it not usable in engines.

Since home heating oil furnaces do not have pistons, the solvent is added to clean the nozzles out in the furnaces for more efficient burning.

However, since the solvent cut home heating oil is typically 20-30 cents a gallon more expensive then #2 dyed the majority of suppliers just buy #2 dyed.

Add in the chance of a cross drop - putting home heating oil in someone's off road fuel tank - and the duplication of inventory that would rarely move outside of winter months... there really is not a whole lot going for it to stock it.

We still wholesale it to a few vendors, but the majority just buy #2 dyed.

1*I am sure this question has come up a few times but couldn't see any recent thread.
2* I am switching from oil to Nat. gas for my home and have about 600 l. of freash home heating fuel worth about $600 these days.
Doing some interent research and other forums, the concensus was that
3*they are identical except for the dye .
4*so whats the feeling out there.
5*i would be using it in a newer direct injection diesel engine for my tractor.
6*Should raise some interesting comment for and against.
1*Oh only about a zillion times more or less.:D
2*Which is the same thing as you are alredy using in your tractor.
I would never buy fuel for my tractor somewhere else when i had 600 gallons of the same stuff in a tank at home.
3*It's all ulsd.
Things have changed since 2010 when everything changed to ULSD .
4*ULSD is for everything, problem is some haven't figured that out yet.
5* It don't matter it will work in any diesel engine.
6*It wouldn't if some weren't behind the times.

Thanks for the replies. Comes from a reputable supplier so i'm not worried about the quality. Plan to store it treated with conditioner in a 1300 l. fuel tank with proper filters etc.. Sounds like it should be a go.
6*I hate to give away the fuel if I can use it.
6*Why give away what you already have then replace it with the same thing for more money ?:confused2:

Around here, folks left with expensive fuel oil in their tank usually just call the dealer and they come and pump it out and refund your money - for a modest fee. I had it done when I switched from fuel oil to dual fuel gas/heat pump some years back - previous house. Anyway, I had no way to get hundreds of gallons of fuel a hundred miles away to my tractor.

Thx , I guess you pretty well summed it up. Thanks for all the reponses. i have a way to pump it out and transport it, but i have also had a few offers to by it. So have a few options.

#1 is kerosene. (which is also jet fuel.)

K1 is kerosene, #1 fuel oil is a diesel blend, #2 fuel oil is a diesel blend (on and off-road)...JP-4, JP-5 and JP-8 are jet fuel blends (JP = jet propellant) JP-4 and 5 are supposedly less environmentally friendly and are supposed to be phased out.

Although my furnace oil tank is in my basement, many are located outside, so I can't imagine gelling is an issue or there would be lots of complaints.
I started using furnace oil in my Kioti DK45 nearly a year ago since it is about $.25 per liter (or so) cheaper than on-road diesel.
