I can get a 4 link chain for my tires for about $150 delivered. I can also find the 2 link chains for $325.

Is there a big difference between 2 and 4 link? I would rather spend the money rather than waste it on a 4 link and later having to buy the 2 link.

My application is snow using a back blade and to be used oi some hilly sloppy/muddy areas. I am using turf tires that are loaded.

The 2 links will grip much better, and ride much better, for sure.

Absolutely get 2-link. 4-link might work OK in mud, but I wouldn't want them on ice. The tire coverage is poor - it would likely give you a jerky ride either way.

I got my chains from these guys: Tire Chains by TireChains.com

It really depends on your situation. I have a level 150' drive and the 4-link chains are fine, although a bit bumpy. These are mounted on turf tires, BTW (see the attached pics).
2-Link chains will provide a "smoother" ride then the 4-Links do. Downsides are the 2-Link chains are heavy and cost considerably more then the 4-Link chains!!
So, if the area you plow is level, save some bucks and your back and go with the 4-Link chains.

During the months of May - August there should be a forum rules prohibiting posting pictures which include snow(j/k).

I have two links chains on the tires of my tractor and they made a huge difference.

A difference as compared to what? No chains or 4 link chains? 4 link chains outsell 2 link chains here by 4 or 5 to one, I'd say. 4 link chains work well in most situations, weigh substantially less and therefore are easier to install, move around and store, and as you have seen, cost a whole lot less.

I don't think 2 link are that much if at all better for traction than 4 link, but it's well worth the extra money for the 2 link for the improved ride quality.

That bumpy ride with the four links will drive you nuts, especially driving on hard surfaces, if you were just in the woods on soft dirt/mud 4 links work great. I've never noticed a difference in traction though, and I have several sets of both on 4 tractors, 2 CUTS and 2 garden tractors.

One thought would be to get 2 sets of the 4 link and build your own 2 link, that possibly would leave you with some extra cross links and 4 full side chains and locks. It's a little bit of work but with the right tool it's not bad.

Good idea...or even just get some spare chain (rather then the built up tire chains) and add those extra links.

I run 4 link chains for snow and ice and have very good traction.
Never tryed them in the mud.
