Attached is a reference chart I made up to use when mixing fuel/oil for my chainsaw; motorcycle; weedwacker; etc.... I simply printed this out and slid it into a laminated sheetholder for use in my mixing (since I never remember the exact amount for each tool). It shows various mixing curves for 40, 60, 80, 100:1 ratios.

Hope this is helpful to someone else. NOTE: The guide uses U.S. Gallons for reference

Hey now that's a handy little chart. Thanks for posting it. I'll be sure to stick one out in the garage.

I am assuming US gallon for your chart so for others on the British gallon it may not apply.

Whoops!.......Yes it is referring to US Gallons. Would you like one created using another measure (Liters; Imp Gallons; etc)? I can probably convert the tables and redo the graphs. Or send me an IM and I'll just forward the original Excel file and you can play with it.

Thanks for the offer but I'm fine.:D

This is one area where the metric system shines.:D

Or for others who want to convert:

1 US Gal = 0.832674 UK Gal

1 US Gal = 3.78541 Liters

Speaking of ratios...

I've used what I belive to be a synthetic oil in mine (Klotz) and when I was talking to the guy at the factory (Klotz) he said I could run my items at a 100:1 ratio.

String trimmer, blower, perhaps even my (now sold) dirt bike.

My memory on the dirtbike was THEY said it could run at 40:1 (bad memory perhaps?), and the string trimmer and blower are at 50:1

Soooooooo, who do I belive? I don't want to burn excess oil but on the other hand, I don't want to ruin them.

I'm currently using 50:1, does anyone here use 100:1 on trimmer/blowers with no ill effects?? (Husky trimmer & Stihl backpack blower)

i always thought it had to do with the oil type....

stihl for years had the 50:1 stihl oil... 32:1 any other type.

thought was stihl oil was more concentrated or some BS....

My old shindawa trimmer lists 25:1 on the cap... My older lawn boys i thought were mixed at 32:1.... so i usually mix 32:1 in all my older equipment and it seems to run fine to me.

but its getting difficult to find 2cycle mix with the ratio listed... they just assume its all ???(something) and add this can to 1 gallon of oil to use in your 2cycle equipment.... great for new stuff and the stupid homeowner... not so good for my older equiment that doesnt all have the same spec!

I normally run 80:1 in my motorcycle, and can go up to 100:1 but I play it safe. My trimmers are spec'd at a 40:1 ratio. One time my son inadvertently used the wrong mix in the trimmer.....it ran but got very hot and started missing.

I believe you can more easily go down in the ratios (more oil) and monitor performance (smoke; missing; heat) without any significant risks (fouled plug), but going up too much (less oil) would be risking a more significant failure in my book.

I run everything at 50:1 with good quality oil. I've also heard of others going up to 100:1, but with the relative cost of the oil being cheap and the only real problem possibly being a fouled plug, why risk it?
