2-Stroke Lawn-Boy Engine Won't Run

I do take note about the lack of oil. So, I would not do it on a 2 stroke that I didn't think was getting some gas/oil from it's fuel system.

I tried the propane on a friends Ski-Doo that would not start. It started immediately! IT stank so bad, on account of mice had filled the muffler with cat food, that we had to shut it off. After that we couldn't get it started again.

I can't see an old Lawn Boy without thinking back to my best friends sister cutting the lawn with one, in her cut offs and halter top. That's actually the mower I got, when they sold their house.

I have a 1980 Toro Commercial two stroke walk behind mower with aluminum deck...

Gave my neighbor $25 for it when he was moving overseas...

Good, well built mower.

Mom was over a couple of weeks ago and wanted to mow... when she ran out of gas she reached for my gas can and put in straight gas...

Have not tried to see if it still works... suppose to have 50 to 1

She said it ran out when she was almost done.

I'm wondering if it is toast?

Only way to find out is to drain the tank and refill with my Stihl 50:1 mix...

My fault in that why would anyone know what fuel a 35 year old mower would use...

toast.

Yesterday evening I finally got back to this project and the mower is running! I went back through the air, spark, fuel systems and still could not find anything wrong that I had not already fixed. I decided to put it all back together and either find a shop that would work on it or take it to the dump. Once it was reassembled I gave it a couple yanks and it actually started and ran for a couple seconds. Still seemed to be running out of gas but after having it apart several times I now had an idea what it might be. There is no manual throttle on this only a governor that opens and closes the throttle plate based on the speed of the engine, an adjustable spring sets the tension and this spring had fallen out of the mounting tabs which was the first thing I found and had fixed. What I didn't do was properly adjust the tension which cause the engine to basically choke itself out as soon as it started running. After cranking up the tension it is running almost as good as new.:D

Thanks for the comments, several of them helped me figure this out.
