Snow Attachments 2 WHEEL DRIVE SNOW BLOWING

   / 2 WHEEL DRIVE SNOW BLOWING #11
Don't even think 2wd, especially for any tractor that weighs less than 1 ton, and certainly for anything with a tire diameter less than 36 inches. The lighter the tractor (and I'm talking compact and sub-compact class, lawn tractors barely count), the more you need 4wd. The older larger tractors had a lot of iron, and a lot of weight naturally over the rear axle. They also had large diameter tires with ag tread. All of this meant they could get away with 2wd, because there was plenty of ground engaging power at the rear axle. Today's compact and sub-compact tractors (Kubota, Deere, Kioti, New Holland) all are light weight (less than 2000 lbs), have much smaller diameter rear tires, and typically come equipped with turf tread tires -- none of this is worth a hoot for snow removal, or much of anything else except mowing. So if you can swing it, buy the machine with the largest rear wheels, and by all means go with 4wd. You will never regret it. Been there, done that, but I learned!
