I've done the same thing as your father with a huge whole tree I could barely lift and was really skidding it forwards with the grapple. When I finished the grapple upper jaw was slightly wonky. Works fine so I consider it an honorable battle scar. Do they have a purple heart for tractors? Mine would have a few of them.
