2000-2002 Chevy trucks and daytime running lights

I think one thing being overlooked here in all the derogatory comments about DRL bulbs is that daytime running lights save lives in cars, trucks and motorcycles.

I think they're well worth the minor annoyances.

I agree. They are life savers in limited visibility. I know that if I were involved in an accident with a driver that deliberately disabled his DRL's I would sue for negligence.

I also think that it is stupid to disable them since the life you save is more likely to be your own.

I also agree there's added safety in having them, and I wouldn't ever disable them. I'd love to be a cop for a day, so I could ticket everyone who doesn't turn on his headlights in the rain, and beat people who speed through school zones. That's my biggest gripe.

My 02 Chev hasn't burned out a single bulb yet inside or out front or rear or side and since it does alot of towing I typically drive with the light switch on anyway so the trailer lights or on even in the daytime.

I just bought an 04 Silverado, and sure enough, one of the DRLs is out.

I would say over half that I see are. Welcome to the GM wink club.

In all honesty I think GM uses cheap bulbs. I just changed the second brake light bulb on my neighbors Dmax and he has dash lights going out. I bet we have replaced 6-8 bulbs on it in 70,000 miles. I was always changing bulbs on my Saturns. My other vehicles from Ford, Dodge, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, ect may need 1 or 2 bulbs in 100,000 miles.

Interesting. I've owned 15-20 GM vehicles, and haven't ever really experienced any bulb issues. Granted, all but four of them were from the 80s. That was probably before they were using Chinese bulbs made out of cat skeletons and arsenic. ;)

Here is the fix. Go to the auto parts store and get a new socket. Something is wrong with the socket causing it to get hot and blow the bulb. I fixed mine like this, and it has worked ever since... No special bulb or anything.
