your link didn't work. but the joint you mention is dry on mine, the entire spindle oily. I HOPE I'm right. I popped the final drive cover and and popped the spindle - the seal is not torn or anything but had some dirt in the rubber between the two ridges, the "sleeve" that the seal seats on is deeply grooved and needs replacing.
- on a side note, when I stopped at JD there was a shiny new 1023 parked by the door and I notice the front drive is completely different from my 2210.

That's weird about the link. It isn't working for me today either, but it was when I posted it.

Try this one. In this link part # 12 is the seal I'm referring to-

Mine was getting my drop tube and final drive damp (mine wasn't leaking bad like yours).

When I checked it over yesterday I topped off the oil, then spotted the leak. She sat on jacks overnight and slow-dripped from the spindle about a tablespoon worth. All I can say is that seal must be torn somewhere that I can't see. I was surprised by the damage to the sleeve and the dirt in the seal, I assume that dirt may have been there a long time, but not sure why it suddenly started leaking after that last snow storm. Oh well, for your entertainment, here is a pic of the spindle and seal as it sits on my bench....
Funny how this started at the other end. Just glad the old girl held on until temp got above zero and the snow stopped, with an unheated uninsulated garage it's hard to keep up with these things.

Be glad it's that one and not the upper one. The upper requires disassembly of the lower and upper joints and seals. Hopefully you can get it all sorted to your liking, and will have it fresh in mind should the other side start to leak.

In the photo you posted it appears the hose attached too something with a compression clamp at the top of the breather assembly may be leaking. Have you tried cleaning the area good and replacing the spring clamp with a regular clamp and seeing if the problem still exists?

Thanks. Now that it is spring the unheated, arctic garage/freezer problem no longer applies and maybe I can attend to long neglected items. A thorough cleaning and inspection/lube job is on the list for the old green/yellow girl. Not to mention two garages that need cleaning and straightening because of the arctic garage/freezer thing, a car that badly needs washing, a truck that needs some work, etc... just as soon as it warms up .... HA HA! Until then the "leak" from the black thingy doesn't appear to be anything to be concerned about.

As for the front axle seal it is fixed. Funny, there was no sign of water in the front axle, just dirt in the seal.
However, the complacent and non-existent customer service at the local JD dealer makes me wonder once again if my next tractor will be some other color. (blasphemy!)
