The tractor sounds like a good deal. I use a 25hp with a heavy duty 5ft. rough cut mower with no problems at all. In very thick grass/weeds I simply slow down a little. I use my tractor for everything from plowing to mowing the fields. On a side note, I have dealt with Both Affordable and Ranch Hand Supply on several occasions. They offer many parts, very quick shipping and are Very knowledgeable. They have Never told me wrong. They deal with these tractors everyday so they know what they are talking about. I am inclined to listen to them because they have a little something called Experience.

I had my 284 dyno tested. Looked like a pto generator. Turned 31HP peak.

Marv - if you compare that price to a four foot decked lawn tractor of any description it will be better. I would have no hesitation pulling a five foot finish mower behind it. I cut a lot of grass with a twelve horsepower Craftsman POS and most times parts for it are harder to get than for my 284
As for the horsepower rating -- who cares unless you are really into mines bigger contests JMHO

That does not surprise me Chris. My old 284 was by far the strongest tractor I've owned that was rated as 30hp or that general range.

I have a 2420 and use a 72 inch finish mower with no problem. Parts are easy to get from Affordable Tractor Sales in Texas.
