Also, that picture was taken today from underneath my dashboard, so I know it's right.

Looked at mine; the controller wires are definitely different colors than my harness pigtail.

Yes, your picture should tell him everything he needs to know.

Chris

From looking at your picture and looking at the factory pigtail I have in my hand, I take it that your pigtail is on the right side of the picture. Even your factory male and female colors don't match. You show a picture and fail to explain it. What is the purpose of each colored wire as it comes into and out of the connector?

Your factory pigtail doesn't match my factory pigtail. Yesterday I went to the Dodge place to get some help. Parts man had no idea, but did bring out the Dodge factory pigtail for my truck. (2005) It wasn't the same as my factory pigtail or yours. It had a white/red striped wire and a black/green striped wire with it and none of those wires were labeled.

I'm sure I'm making this more complicated than it really is, but I dont want to fry another unit because the wires don't match the instructions.

Thanks again to all.....

odd, i thought ALL of the more recent dodge rams were factory wired for brake controllers. All you needed to do was to buy their adapters.

Even my 1994 had it wired that way.

I'm gonna assume your referring to MY picture in which case, READ THE **** POST!
The factory harness is BLUE, the aftermarket adapter is WHITE. All four wires are labeled as to what they do.
Truck Harness -- Adapter
Green /Black -- White (Ground)
White -- Red (Brakelight)
Blue -- Blue (Trailer Brakes)
Red -- Black (Power 12v+)

If you can't comprehend that, bring it to a dealer to install.

Lets just try to help the guy here.

Get a $3 12 Volt test light to be sure. Hook the clip end to a good ground then probe all 4 to find 12 volts. Mark it as such. Now probe the remaining 3 to find the ground, using the 12 volt supply you just found.. Mark it.

That means the remaining 2 wires have to be brakes out and brake signal in. Again attach the ground clip of the test light to a ground or better yet the ground you just found in you harness and press the brakes. One wire will have 12 volts on it, this is your brake in signal.

Now on your controller take the black wire and hook it up to the 12Volts you found.

Take the white wire and hook it up to the ground you found.

Take the red wire and hook it up to the brake in signal wire you found.

Take the blue wire and hook it up to the remaining wire. This is your brakes out and will go back to the pig tail adapter at the hitch.

OH!!! I assumed the whole connector was blue since you didn't say the white part was after market. either way, your friggin BLUE factory female plug does NOT match my 2005 FACTORY BLUE FEMALE CONNECTOR. If you can't undertand that I'll go out and take a picture of it so you can read a thousand words.

I may not understand electricy like some of you pros. To be honest I'm afraid of flashlight batteries. But I am smart enough to know when someone is beging a jackass. So having said that, Go play in the street while I start my truck!

It's too bad they aren't the same colors, luckily I found a wiring diagram online. I can't find it again but this is how my 03 RAM is wired.
Truck Harness -- Brake Controller
Green /Black -- White (Ground)
White -- Red (Brakelight)
Blue -- Blue (Trailer Brakes)
Red -- Black (Power 12v+)

The blue connector is the factory truck harness.

It sounds like you may have connected the 12v power to the brake light signal wire in the brake controller ( Red to Red). Unfortunately, you probably fried the controller.

Alright, go take a picture. The wire colors may be different but I'm sure it's the same plug and since you refer to it as "female", I'm guessing your looking at the wrong one. The factory harness is male.

Alright tough guy, go take a picture. I'm sure it's the same plug and since you refer to it as "female", I'm guessing your looking at the wrong one. The factory harness is male.

XXXXXXXXX

I guess we differ on more than just who is color blind!

I was always of the opinion that if Part A allowed Part B to do inside of itself, then Part A was female. But if you are calling this the male end of the plug because it has the 4 male blades "inside" of itself, then you are correct and I am wrong. I might have learned something tonight. My factory pigtail most definitely slides "into" the factory connector that is conveniently attached to another wiring harness about 3" from my parking brake under the dash. It is even labeled "ELECTRIC BRAKE" ! ! ! See picture below.

This is the factory pigtail that was in a sealed bag in the glovebox of my truck. It most definitely slips into the factory plug under the dash. Notice the colors of the wires and also pay attention to the 12 and 16 guage wires.

This is the plug under the dash. The one that the factory pigtail fits so nice and snug inside of and then snaps together. It's the only blue thing under the driver's side of the dash that I could find. Especially within a foot of where everyone says it is. Pay close attention to the colors of the wires and to the guage of each. black, white w/red stripe, green, brown w/red stripe

I believe your connector that is hardwired into your fuse box has green w/black stripe, white (solid I think), blue and finally red. My harness has neither blue or red.

excuse me for a minute while I go find my keys.
