2006 John Deere 5525- advice?

Local place here has a 2006 5525 for sale and i was wondering if I should look at it or pass it by. I am in need of a tractor this size (weight, hp, etc.). It has 1800 hours but tact says 400 because it was replaced at 1400 (this normal?). I haven’t went down and looked yet but it looks clean from the pics.

It is open station, no loader, MFWD, 2 rear scv’s, tires rated 80%+. They are asking 25,900 and adding a 542 loader they are asking 31,900. Assuming it is in good shape, not beat to death, is this something worth going for? I tried looking for reviews and such but didn’t turn up a whole lot.

5x25 series tractors are a pretty good machine. In that time frame Deere had yet to offer a lower priced alternative to their premium utility tractor line up like the e series they have today. They typically have a pretty good re-sale value, I would do some comparisons online, machinefinder is closely associated to Deere dealers and there are other good one's like tractorhouse and fastline to also look at.

Thanks for the response. The trouble I’m having is when it’s all said and done I can get a 18’ E series for around the same price albeit not as much horsepower but sufficient for my needs.

That's probably correct, the 5x25 was a premium unit. To look for similar vintage units that where not as high end you would look to the 5x05 tractors, they where also lower in hp but where minus a lot of the features that made the 25's so expensive. 5x05 series tractors have also held their value very well.
