I've heard of people putting a strip of galvanized metal on the peak and the acid from the metal will keep/clean the mold off.

I think it's zinc, supposed to work good, the supply houses should know for sure.

I re-roofed my last home (5-6 years ago) and used architectural shingles. I personally think 3tab are an outdated look.

As far as using the FEL to remove debris, note the previous comments about nails. They will be everywhere. I rolled a magnet around for weeks after my "final" clean up and still picked up 2-3 random nails.

Good luck with the project. It is a lot of work but the results give you a real sense of accomplishment.

We've used some Timberline architectural on the house and barn--like them and the warranty. Get roof delivery if possible and definitely one of the rolling magnets if you can--I have one that I drag around but the rolling ones seemed to work better. Also, as an FYI in NY in 2008 you now need a building permit to do a roof (PITA I know, but thems the law now)!!
