I guess my tractor has always been slow moving but now it has just stopped reverse and forward is very slow. It has been about 200 hours since the trans fluid and filter was changed. The tractor has less then 500 hours on it. Fluid is at full mark on dip stick. What am I looking at to diagnose the problem?

Need more info. Is it just slow or other problems? Will it push like it used to, but just slowly? Does it happen all the time?

Fluid and filter should be fine at 200 hrs unless it got water in it. Transmission fluid is normally very clear. Check if yours is milky (water) or filled with foamy yellowish bubbles when it gets hot. - which would indicate a be a suction hose leak.

And look carefully underneath for an oily hose or connector. That would indicate a suction air leak. Look particularly at the hose from the transmission sump up to the hydraulic pressure pump.

Are you sure the brake isn't dragging? Check the brake pedal. It should have some free play before actuating.
Luck,
rScotty

While you are under the tractor looking at hoses, don't forget to look at the mechanical linkage. Mine started loosening up and my forward speed went way down. You will probably need someone to press the pedal while you are looking. The loose connection is hard to spot.

I had the same thing happen. It was a stick broken off, jammed into the linkage under the floor, limiting movement.

Thanks all for your replies. I went under the tractor this morning and nothing was amiss. No leaks or wet plumbing, no loose linkage, no foreign debris. The fluid level is at full and no water contamination. The tractor is never left outside and never exposed to any dampness. I only use the FEL in winter to move snow. Yesterday was the first that I used the tractor since attaching it. Scotty wrote about a suction leak. Could this happen at the FEL quick connects without showing any seepage? How can I tell? Even with the FEL off in summer the top speed of the tractor was only about 3mph at 3000rpm and forward pedal down all the way. Far less than the specs say it should be. Been like that for years. The hydro filter is OE installed 200 hours ago. Could a bad filter cause my problem? Thanks again.
