Toyota Hilux 3.0L EDI Turbo Diesel


Toyota Landcruiser 70 series, you guessed it, diesel!


We have a Nissan Patrol, 4.2L turbo intercooled diesel

Toyota had one here in the states back in the early to mid 80's (my grandfather had one) not sure why they quit making them.

That thing got around 40 mph but like most no-turbo diesals it had very little power "off the line"

Toyota makes fine cars and pickups; just not my cup of tea. Th FJ40 of years back was awesome, but I am a Jeeper by birth; started out as a wee little kid in '42 Ford MB. I'll take a CJ over an FJ any day

The key is, ALL the manufacturers should be in this market, not just Toyota. They are in other countries. They are available in other markets. Do they just not meet our safety and smog req's, or is the US market just not there for the small diesel pickup.

If I were in the market for a small truck, I might still think gas, just because diesel is 40 cents more expensive around here lately. So the market may be questionable?

I wonder if any of our Aussie members might have some comparison of economy Km/L for thier small Ute's in gas vs diesel version?

I mentioned Toyota because in my view they make a dang fine truck...and they are made HERE. Problem is they just don't make one that suits me now, I've owned 2 Toyota pickups in the past and even had a FJ40 back in 74...man I wish I had that back now
I currently drive a 96 F350 Crew Cab Diesel 4x4 Long Bed ordered in June 95 and delivered late October 95. I'll probably drive it until it totally wears out, and is beyond any repair- I'm just not turned on by anything on the market now, particularly looking at the prices nowadays

Robert, I was Tallin, Estonia earlier this year and saw a 4 dr Jeep Rubicon...diesel! They make them, but obviously not for US market.

I can't believe that Mahindra only comes in a six speed automatoc transmission. I hate small vehicles with automatic transmissions. In fact, I hate big vehicles with automatic transmissions. Put a six speed manual in the dang thing and I might be interested. Sigh.

As for emissions standards, I agree with Roy 100%. Even if I don't like the standards, the playing field has to be level. Why in the heck would we let other countries import vehicles that don't meet standards we require of our own? That has nothing to do with being an Ugly American, it has to do with fairness and the rule of law.
