2010 5083E Radio probelms

Just purchased a 2010 John Deere 5083E Limited and it didn't come with a radio. So I went to best buy and bought a JVC KD-R540 Radio and the Volkswagen Adapter harness. Wired it all together and plugged in the Factory Antenna into the back. Turns on, but its not picking up any radio stations..... Could there be something wrong with the factory antenna? Or my wire job?

Do you have a line filter on the power line?

Could be a junk out of the box radio too. These days much of all electronic stuff is DOA. take it back after checking everything out one more time and swap it for another radio.
For radio connection all you should need is power through a fuse and ground and two wires to each speaker. Most connect to a factory type harness, your VW? harness?
Do you get any sound through the radio at all on Am or FM?
Does it play CD's? MP3's, thumb drive(s)? or similar?

Radio is brand New and works as it should, CD player works, Can plug my MP3 Player into it and that works. It picks up 1 FM station here 102.9 (Classic Rock, something my dad would listen too haha).

Also this thread stated by a "JD3520Turbo" says that the Factory Plug for the radio is the same as a Volkswagen. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/john-deere-owning-operating/230556-new-5083e-radio-install.html

Looks like I'm going to have to take the Cab interior off to find the antenna... Something I did not want to have to do. Or I could just use the USB slot and CD player. Decisions Decisions... Haha

Sounds like you have the wiring, but not the antenna. Antenna is external to the cab.

External eh? Hmmm, My problem may be that the Antenna is missing.... I'll have to check it out tomorrow. And if it is missing, Boy I sure will feel dumb for not looking...

It had the Factory Antenna Cable in the Cab, And after looking at pics of other 5083E's I see where the Antenna is located. I think mine may not be on the machine. I'll check it out in the morning.

Could be the factory antenna cable in the cab is part A of two parts, part B being the part that is the actual antenna, which mounts on the outside to pick up things like radio waves!:laughing:

The antenna kit is an extra option from the dealer. If your tractor didn't come with a radio it didn't come with an antenna.

Go back to best buy and get one of the little window mount antennas. I kept knocking off my external one and spent 25 or thirty on a window mount amped antenna. Works way better than the factory unit.



Mine is mounted on the inside of the glass right below the radio on my tn 75. Easy to run the wires (didn't even have to pull the liner) and it works great.
