Hi guys-
I looked at a 2010 855d gator yesterday that I am planning on buying. The only thing I was wondering about was that when you first depress the "gas" pedal the diesel starts to increase its rpm before there is any forward movement. It runs really well and I like it alot but wondered if it is supposed to do that. The salesman thought that it was set up that way but wasn't 100% sure. Does anybody have one that behaves that way? It seems to make sense that it would have to achieve a high enough RPM before engaging the transmission, but I wasn't sure. The gas version I tried doesn't do that. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks - Mike

I have an HPX diesel and it reacts the same way. Engine speed has to increase so clutch can engage. After it breaks in it will react quicker. I had to replace my clutch a few years ago and it took time for it to act normally.

Ours does the same thing, Mike. Normal. The clutch declutches at idle which is nice, actually, because you can sit at idle in gear and it doesn't slip the belt. But when slowing down, going down a hill, it will also declutch and you'll accelerate while coasting. Keeping your foot slightly on the "go" pedal with keep the engine above idle and keep that clutch engaged so the engine compression actually helps slow it down. Counter-intuitive but you'll get the hang of it. Less of an issue when in low range so if you're in hilly county that is something to consider.
Also, if you're disappointed with the brakes like we were when our 08 was new, be assured they improve once broken in a bit. I no longer think about the brakes being an issue but at first it almost seemed like it wouldn't stop well at all.

If the engine is idling too slow it will also cause a delay in clutch engagement.

Thanks for the feedback guys - it is a real nice machine and I think I will be getting one for the farm. - Mike
