Wondering if I paid to much. In Sept. of last year (2010) I purchased the following:
2010 3320 w/factory cab, rear wiper, rear work lights, stereo installed
300 cx bucket with blade
small knob tires (for lawn, sorry I'm new and do not know name)
backhoe 375 w/24" bucket
ballast box
5' snowblower (frontier) and controls

The price was $44,500
The reason I'm asking is, I went to buy a bush hog from the same salesman the other day and he quoted me a street price. I said to him another salseman from your company quoted me $200 cheaper by phone the other day. He went to his office for a minute and came back with $50 higher than other salesman. I said to him that I can get a woods bb60x for the $50 cheaper price and he said he can match it. After comming home and thinking about it I called him and expressed that I would be going with the woods as I wasn't pleased with 3 prices and figured after spending $44500 I would get an excellent price on new attachments. Any input would be helpful....Thanks!!!!

If you add up the msrp prices for your equipment and deduct 15 to 20% you would be close to a fair price for your setup.

There are a few exceptions though, for instance some of the small implements the dealers have to buy two of them to get one in for you. If they suspect they will have a hard time moving the second item you won't see much of a discount on yours. The larger add ons you listed are sold as single units. Shipping something like weights can be an issue too, got to be reasonable about all of it.

I gather you're a bit surprised (and dismayed) that the salesman would be so quick to go for your jugular...!!

No consideration at all for the fact you dropped over $44K in their lap just a few short months ago.

Couple of observations - dealers are much more inclined to work with buyers on a "tractor package deal". Buying a single implement for $2,000 does not carry the same profit margin that a bigger sale can.

As Steve pointed out; and has been my experience as well, some attachments require the dealer to purchase multiple units from Mother Deere in order to sell you just one unit. Disc mowers are one of those multiple unit purchases.

Finally, even the Romans understood the need to "do your homework" -- caveat emptor -- buyer beware...

44K sounds like a ton of money but, looking at what you got for the money and considering that the tractor and those awesome attachments will be around for a long time....why does it matter.....it's money well spent.

Heck of a rig you've got and I wish you the best with it's operations.:licking::thumbsup:

It was not my intent to be flip regarding your recent buying experience at your local dealer. Rereading my post - it was short...

Nonetheless, after several year's here on TBN; I have come to recognize that equipment prices in the NE tend to be higher than many other places around the country. Why...? I don't have a good understanding of the possible reasons.

But... you did have a competitive price to fall back on when negotiating with the salesman and the back-and-forth with him was an "educational moment" for him - no doubt. It's not likely that he will approach future sales with you from the same position.... And that should be good for both of you!

As was mentioned earlier; you have a great tractor - the cab model is considered by many to be the best of the best! It should serve you well for many, many years.

If you really want to reassure yourself that the deal you received when you bought your tractor was a good one - the closest approximation - would be to price the equipment on the JD website, Build Your Own; and deduct 15-20%.

That would place you in the range of other folk's buying experiences.

Don't give it a second thought. I don't think I ever got a deal where I didn't second guess myself somewhat. I can eat you up. Ten years from now you will never know the difference.

As for me, and I might be the minority here, but I don't trust any dealers when it comes bargaining time. I understand they are for number one, and you ain't it.

All we can do is price a few dealers comparing apples to apples, go for it and put the receipt in the safe and forget it.

Those are great tractors by the way.:thumbsup:

You have a good deal there.

I don't second guess my purchases. After I decide that the price is what I will pay, then I move on. Just me, I guess (but similar to Deere Dude).

Of that $44,500, how much went in the salesman's pocket? Who knows, but it shouldn't have a bearing on the next purchase. The salesman (as one told me once) has kids that he has to feed too. He can't live on nickles and dimes, and I for one don't think he should.

I do find that a happy salesman is someone on my side when things come up, and/or I'm looking for something. :)

HAHA! My dad was working with a sales rep once and the guy said, "come on this is the best deal I can give you, I have to eat..." Dad's response "well judging by that belly of yours maybe you could eat a salad this week, you still didn't get to the price i asked for...."

Painful, yes...

MaineMark, what part of ME are you in? The dealers around the state vary... The one in the BGR area for instance isn't too interested in giving much of a deal, which made me wonder if they even wanted to try to sell something...
