2010 went clank in the rear end, then went no where

Where are the filings from the broken axle going, into a filter or just floating through other gears and wrecking them?
Won't know what the pieces parts looks like until the rear end is torn down. Which he is going to have to do in any case. Either tear it down and repair it, or drag it off to some lonely corner of the field/woods and let it rest in peace.

My vote is failed differential pinion shaft(item 13) &/or gears in lieu of failed rear axle. Are you positive about model #??? JD 2010 didn't have option of differential lock.

on the model. not 100%. i'm a oliver guy. This is the serial on the motor 41TR035663T and this is the one on the rear end housing 4R1C028077T. It could be a 1020 i suspect since it's a 3 cyl. The guy i bought it from doesn't know anything about tractors really. He just used it to brush hog and rototill a garden spot on his 5 acres. He had it for about 10 yrs. I got it because he couldn't keep it running. He had the carb rebuilt twice, but it would run till it got warm, then stop. I bought a new aftermarket carb and started right up and ran great till this.

2010s were 4 cylinder

3 cylinder engine narrows the model choices a lot. According to serial # it's definitely a 1966 model 1020

Thanks. Appreciate that a lot! Sorry everyone for my ignorance and thanks for everyone else's post.

Now on getting her fixed. I'll fix her or otherwise it's a boat anchor. Not much demand for a boat anchor.

Alrighty. The now 1020 broke a pinion shaft. Parts diagram shows it could be 2 cross shafts or 1 with a dowel pin
