2011 Silverado/Sierra

I'd rather buy a truck that tows a heavy trailer up a hill and comes in first and goes down the other side and comes in first in braking power than a truck that comes first in sales numbers or stock value.

You'll like the 450 Brian. I had one for ~4 years too and I can remember being very excited when I bought it.

It was more of a compromise. I really wanted the 2011 Duramax/Allison but it was going to be another $15K+ and I was going to have to wait anywhere from weeks to months to get one. Having essentially been without a truck since the beginning of November and borrowing a friends truck when I needed to move my trailer, finding a truck that would do the job and it being on the lot was a big deciding factor too. I'm getting ready to go into my busy season, waiting as much as 2 months would have really cut into my business for this year.

I feel like I rolled the dice a little with the 6.4, but considering it got 41K miles put on it in 3 years it wasn't a driveway queen. The person that leased it before I bought it, used it quite a bit. So I think that works to my favor considering it had a clean report. We all know stuff breaks, so even if I bought the new GM product, there would be no guarantee that it would not end up in the shop for repairs.

Happy for you Brian...You have a truck for the business, that's what matters...Hope you have great luck with it...This is from A GM guy...Sometimes circumstances dictate the outcome and it sounds like everything worked out for you.

That's another great advantage GM has: 5yr/100K powertrain warranty. They really put it all on the line for the customer.

Big deal. Ford and Dodge have similar warranties. Ford is 5/100,000. If you want the best warranty you better run out and buy you a Hyundai, they now have 20year 200,000 mile warranties.

Its all done to sell vehicles, plain and simple. GM could not give away a Dmax early on when the Ford 7.3 and the Dodge 5.9 ruled the roost. GM had to do something to bring in customers, you can only sell so cheap. The best way was with warranties, it wins customer base. Look at Hyundai and its 400% market share increase.

Again, congratulations Brian. Keep us updated on the truck. Maybe start a new thread labeled 2008 F-450 6.4L so others considering one can learn from you. I believe you will give a fair assessment of the truck, you just seem like that type of man.

Whats the plan for the 8.1L GM you now have sitting around. Maybe a 5.9L Cummins?

I'll post some more pics later this week after I get the hitch put in it. I'll also have a review on how it is to tow with. My buddies truck that I have been using is a F350 4x4 King Ranch with a 6.0 and it seems to do well, so I expect this truck do better than it. The hitch is supposed to be here Wednesday, hopefully I will get it put in that day. I still have to get the vinyl signs made for it too.
