2013 john deere 5075E and others
The battery on my 2013 Deere 5075E played out. I bought the tractor new in 2014 so the battery has been in service for five years. Not bad I think. I have heard it was only a three year battery to begin with but I can't confirm that. It's a group 27 670 CCA battery but I have a little more room so plan to replace it with a group 31 1125 CCA Napa battery. I can't find a downside to having to many CCA's. The original 670 CCA seemed a bit small.

Get the highest cca battery that will fit and keep a battery tender on it. Check the mfg date on the battery you purchase. Get the freshest one you can find. If you opt for a Tractor Supply battery the larger group 31's are typically racked. The freshest ones are in the back of the rack.

I pulled my Group 31 OEM battery, on my tractor, after nine years, this summer. I can always use a big 'ol spare around the property. I put in an Odyssey AGM Group 31 with 1150 CCA ( 31-PC2150 S ). I keep a Deltron battery tender on my tractor battery 24/7/365.

Going to follow this thread.
My pre-2012 battery might be getting weak. ...or I don't run it enough in this cold weather , or I didn't plug the block heater in long enough before attempting...(TBD).

I looked into replacing it and was going to go with an Interstate (battery) MT-27 (1000 CA, 810 CCA, Group size 27).

I agree, the bigger the better. Let us know if the Group 31 easily fits or if hold down brackets need to be modified, etc...

Plenty of room in front in the 5075e, the group 31 replaced the group 27 easily. Only a inch or two difference. Cables were plenty long enough. The only thing is the angle bracket that the hold down rods bolt to is not long enough. I cut a new one out of some angle iron, drilled a couple holes, painted it and tractor was back up and going.

If your engine and electrical system is healthy, why would you spend more on a bigger battery? If I have not used my tractor for some months, I will throw a slow charger on it for a day or so. This fixation of keeping batteries connected to a charger is ridiculous, if you ask me. And I have a lot of equipment with batteries, so it's not like I like buying batteries prematurely. Oh, and I live in a Hot and Cold climate!

Thanks for your reply Industrial Toys. In my OP I said I couldn't find a downside to too many CCA's and still can't. Spending a little extra, less than $50, on a larger CCA 5 year battery was a good plan vs a smaller CCA 3 year battery. This tractors main function from Dec-March will be feeding cattle. It does have a block heater but my area is known for power outages. My thinking is if I need to "cycle" the intake grid heater multiple times to start in 0 or below zero weather I would like as large a CCA battery as I can get. No backup tractor at this farm. I don't use a battery tender or trickle charger. The tractor gets used every 2-3 days and the charging system is 100%. Only 400hrs on it.

So it boils down to how easy or hard the tractor is to start.

It did get me to wondering though. Are modern computerized tractors like vehicles that have computers energized at all times? That would require a tender for equipment that sits idle for long periods or is not used long enough to recharge the battery.

I replaced my 2009 Kubota OEM battery this summer. It was still doing good but I can always use a spare around the property. I got an Odyssey Group 31 AGM @ 1150 CCA. I only start my tractor to plow snow. I DO keep a Deltron battery tender on this battery. In my case, the battery tender seems to extend the life of the battery.

IT - I think your thoughts may be valid. Maybe not in my 2009 Kubota M6040. I know that my "computer on two wheels" - BMW R1200GSA - keeps many of its electronics "hot" and that will require juice. I keep a special battery tender on it - all winter.

I have a 2016 5065E and with the stock battery it IMO turns the engine over too slow. As said above they are 3 year batteries so mine is at that point of not having enough CCA in cold weather (20 degrees F). The other morning it had been a hard freeze and the battery would barely turn the engine over. I jumped it with my jeep and it started right up. I think the CCA of the stock battery is not enough as I have always thought this tractor was turning over much to slow when starting even in warm weather. I'm looking at an Interstate battery as I've had good luck with them in my Kioti tractor the stock battery lasted 17 years. I never plugged the Kioti and it started in the teens every time. These tractors should be designed to start in cold weather with out putting chargers or heaters on them. The only exception would be sub zero weather at which you are dealing with fuel gel as well.
