2013 Silverado

I have a 2012 crew cab Sierra and I love it. I installed a KnN intake about 2000 miles ago and here is what I found

Before the intake.
Toronto on New Jersey at night no traffic winter aid temp. 17 to 17.5 mpg at 78 to 81 mph

After
Same trip same time of day same speed.
19.5 to 20.0 mpg. I do this run every / weeks and have run about 4 trips with the KnN.

I also am getting about .5 mpg around the city

Your claim of extracting 15% more NET energy from a gallon of gasoline by changing an airfilter is an outright lie.
Run the truck on a chassis dyno back to back with the two different aircleaner systems then look at the efficiency numbers.

The last GM truck I bought was when I was working for a GM dealership. That was back in 1993. People say the older stuff lasted longer and in my case it did. I still use that same truck today and its still on its original paint. Plowed snow for 13 years as well.
GM is going to have to come out with something really well built before I buy again. The new ones look ok, great power and comfort but their not holding up.

Not sure what you're referring to as the newer GM's not holding up...I've had a 91, a 97, a 2004 and my current 2011...Never had a problem with any of them..The 90's trucks I had were run to 200k, the 2004 was almost at 100k when I traded it.

That is a nice truck that you have there...

Totally agree. The 1st new truck I bought was a white 94 Silverado. Man, what a great truck. I got a good job at the age of 19. I still remember the day I picked it up. I remeber the 1st day I picked my wife up in it also. The truck is long gone but still have the girl.

At the end of Dec. 2012 I bought a 2013 Ext cab 4x4 Flex fuel LT, 6.5ft. bed, 5.3, 6 spd. auto, 3.42
Window sticker claims 21 MPG Hwy. I haven't taken a trip yet to verify but it does give me 16 MPG local driving back and forth to work.
It's pretty well loaded up with options. I'm happy with it. It has a lot more pep than the similar 08 I traded in but I suspect the difference is the transmission. The 08 had a 4 spd. with 3.73 rear.

Dyno aside. This is real world. I kid you not..... I was amazed with the result. I expected .5 mpg but I was surprised by the real average gain.

That being said. KnN with 87 does not get any gain over stock air intake

Beautiful truck 4shorts! Increible condition.

I am certainly very anxious to see how GM's new line of direct injected engines perform.

Thanks. It's been a great truck. Although I grew up loving GM but in the last 15 years I've moved on to Ford and lately Dodge and I'm very happy with their products. GM will have to pull a rabbit out of their hat to get me back.

Although I grew up loving GM and working for them, the last 19 years we've had our own automotive repair business and if it weren't for the GM trucks we'd have hardly any truck repairs at all. We do government fleet trucks and company vehicles and the newer ones got their check engine light on most of the time, then there's the heater issues, the trailer modules acting up, battery discharging while not in use.
Just the other day we had to put a fuel pump in a 2009 GMC. We went with the OEM pump, removed the tank and found out that there's a extra plug we're going to need to install the pump now and that cost an extra $60. GM is famous for pulling those tricks. I could go on and on.

I would have never owned a tractor but because I wanted to retire our old 1993 that plowed snow for 13 years I felt tat the newer GMs weren't reliable enough to bother putting a plow on so I bought a tractor instead.

Nice truck. It being extended cab, I can say it was built here at Ft. Wayne Assembly in Indiana. A personal thanks for buying one of our American built trucks and keeping food on my table. Hope it serves you well for many years to come.

Paul lives on The Rock and he is close to the Atlantic Ocean, which means the salt air is he!! on everything made of steel and cast iron. Given that vehicle cancer is so prevalent there, and his vehicles are in top shape is a testament to a man who meticulously maintains his equipment.

I'd rather make those repairs than oil coolers, head gaskets, stretched gasket bolts, turbos and rocker arms. I'm out about 8-10 grand on those repairs. Don't get me started on ball joints and low pressure fuel pumps. Fords making a small fortune on my repairs.
I think everyone has different experiences and the Internet gives us all a free chance to vent to the world for free. There seems to be no shortage of people willing to take advantage of that. Including myself.
Today, I write my check for $3,100 to extend my warranty 2 more years. $3,100 is a lot of money, but I spent $6,000 on my 6l to fix it just a year after the warranty expired. Spent over $3,000 on the 6.4l. Going with what my ford mechanic friend suggested. I can't afford another 5-10k out of warranty repair to Ford.
Good trucks with very disappointing Diesel engines.
