2014 chevy cruz diesel

We are just starting to get a generation of drivers who did not grow up with their parents cursing the GM concept of making a gas engine a diesel and foisting it on the Public.

In 1979 I bought a VW Golf Diesel stick, got 50mpg around town and 65 on trips down from Vermont to DC. A few years later my BIL had a diesel Caddy which required fixing. By replacing the engine with a gasser. His children grew up being wary of passenger car diesels.

How many remember the 1982 Chevette diesel? In 1986 they sold 324 Chevette diesels.
Former executive editor Jim McCraw wrote of the small Chevy: 典he Chevette was pushing 14 seconds for 0-50 (13.90) and ran its best quarter-mile run of 21.48 seconds at 63.40 mph. And also, 展e would have preferred air conditioning on the Chevette, since the other two test cars had it, but it is not available at any price on the little Chevy diesel. For the truly masochistic, it and an automatic transmission will be added later. At least it was relatively refined it was said to have 鍍he least diesel-like mien out there on the open road and managed 50.3 mpg on a 73-mile test loop, besting the Rabbit (47.6) and I-Mark (44.3).

It would be nice to have a small midsize diesel pick up like the VW Amarok TDI in the US. It sound like they say it will cost to much to import. Take a look at this YOUTUBE video.

Never sell in the US or last. No chassis raise kit, no huge over size tires, no loud exhaust system, no light bar across the top of the cab. Why it is just a small truck. It does not have the payload capacity to haul a 3000 pound load. A good F250, Duramax, or Dodge will haul more.

Time moves on........ we can get the Cruze diesel with a stick here........ :)

The current Cruze diesel lists Oil Pan Heater as an option.

Questions for xring, or anybody else who knows these well:

1) Does this mean these don't (or can't) have block heaters ? Meaning coolant immersed.

2) Is the Oil Pan Heater integrated into the pan itself, or is this a stick-on external one ?

3) Wattage ?

I have a few other questions that the local dealers can't seem to figure out, but the above are the tech ones that I'm most interested in.....

FYI, looks like this same new 1.6L diesel will be offered in the Equinox.

I do have the heater on the 2.0l never measured the wattage or its location. I will say the car starts just fine at -10°f without it. The heater is definetly not on my oil pan no wires on the pan or through it.

Im going to order an 18 stick sedan soon. The hatch gets 6-10 real world mpg worse than the sedan manual due to aero and the forced rs tire package. The rs package is optional on the auto hatch. The sedan manual easily beats the 53mpg sticker highway the hatch manual comes in right at its reduced label around 47mpg highway.

The 9speed auto in the cruze is nice fast smooth and a great ratio spread much nicer than the last gen 6speed. I have not driven the diesel equinox. But had a 9speed 2.0 turbo terrain for 2 weeks it was really nice.

Thanks x. Not that the tech is a big deal, I've just never seen factory integrated pan heaters before. If it is an external heater, I can do that myself.

Modern automatics have come a long way, but if I'm going to buy a Cruze new, it will be stick.

Is that 2.0 in the Terrain gas or diesel ?

The 2.0 is gas -1.6 diesel in the Terrain looked at one yesterday

I suspected it would be the same as the Equinox. I don't really know late model GM small gas engines well....

In an SUV platform, it would be really nice to see a 2.5L or so diesel (towing capacity).

Looking forward to both of those threads x.

For tbelts, I know TDIs are a lot more work than the old 'dub diesels, hopefully the Cruze isn't too bad....
