A follow-up on the blown head gasket. The head went to an engine machine shop. They were having trouble finding the exhaust valve guides (already at maximum spec at 700 hours!). With the help of a guy at Mitsubishi, we figured out this is not a Mitsubishi made engine. It is a Mitsubishi design LS made themselves cheaper. The manual was easy to find, though. All necessary specs are in the manual. It cost me about $450 for engine machine shop ($220), gaskets($171) , and miscellaneous fluids/shop supplies. It runs like it did before. I am still selling it because of this bad experience with LS and I want a bigger one anyway. My new tractor will have a name brand engine stamped on the engine and I will confirm with the parts guy the availability of parts before buying.
If I ever get a letter for emissions recall in the future, it will be ignored unless they will give me a written extended warranty.
