2014 Ram 2500 6.4L Gas w/Air Ride Rear Suspension!

I live 3 min from work and end up driving between our 3 buildings that are .6 miles apart on a daily basis so the average mpg with my 2012 crew cab 2500 hemi 4x4 3.73gear is around 12.5 -13mpg. the two trips I have been on netted 16.9 mpg with my motocross bike on the receiver hitch bike rack I have (around 400#) and probably another 600# for the two people and associated gear and tools for the day. this was over a 7 hour round trip from southern to northern mi in a single day for a race traveling the speed limit to +5mph. similar 5 hour trip with 3 motocross bikes in an enclosed trailer probably 3500-4000# netted 9.8mpg running 60mph on two lane highway. with various items on my 10k bumper pull equipment trailer it seems to get anywhere from 10-12.5 mpg with weight making less of a difference than speed. I have not pulled my camper any notable distance yet but I expect it to kill the mpg just like the enclosed trailer. I will say the updated 5.7 hemi and true 6 speed trans in the 2012+ 2500 is a big improvement over my 08 1500 hemi with 3.92gears wile returning the similar economy I averaged with that truck. it sounds like the 6.4 is basically a stroked 5.7 with 70% of the engine being the same.

The 6.4l is designed as a true truck engine. Its going to be available in 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks. In the C&C trucks, it will be available with the Aisin transmission.
While I like the 5.7L hemi, (and have owned two myself) it was designed as a car engine. Im glad to see Ram actually building a gasoline truck engine for those not wanting a diesel.
The air ride I am still not sure about, from what i ve read so far, its pretty much fully automatic except for a selection between "Loaded" and "Unloaded" Im wondering how the system will react to putting a leveling kit? I also want to know if the entire air suspension system is covered by the 5/100,000 powertrain warranty or just the 3/36K part?

Are you sure this is not the same 6.4/ 392 they use in the Challenger?

I'd be surprised if the 6.4 they will put in the trucks is totally different than what goes into the Challenger and the other SRT8 vehicles in Chrysler's lineup. That said, I'm sure in several ways its different, cam, tuning intake, etc. GM put a lot of 350's in vehicles in the past, including trucks, so its not like its a bad thing the engines are built on the same platform.

Even in the '60's, I remember my Uncle have in a '66 SS396 Chevelle, and my grandfather a '69 GMC 3/4 ton pickup with 396.

Just from the outside, you could see they had differetn carb/intake and exhaust manifold; the truck for lower rpm and torque. Guessing compression, and camshaft were same; grind for performance, grind for torque. Heads too.

Just no need to make a seperate motor for each, although many parts may differ. Especially now, with all the computer control.

Seems like a great combination to me. But they want $1500 extra just for the 6.4! Unfortunately, these new super expensive trucks are just out of my price range.

I have a 2006 RAM 1500 4X4 that I towed a 24 ft race car trailer. I put air bags on this truck and it made a big difference and was easy to level out. The truck has the 5.7 HEMI with the multiple cylinder option and gets about 19 mph on the open road and 11 mph towing the trailer. It is very stable towing and you don't notice the speed so you have to be attentive. The air bags are adjusted by an external air valve. You adjust pressure as you would your tires. I like it!
