2014 Silverado/Sierra released

I'll admit, I am quite dissapointed. You would think they would have released at least ONE new engine, but all they did was dress up old engines (minus the 6.2 which in my opinion they have ruined by putting on AFM). The "all new" stuff they're touting is either cheesy or has been around since 2005 (torsion bars in the tailgate? ummm, that's standard on ALL trucks now, geniuses). Can't believe they kept the 4.3 v6 and didn't go with the 3.6 instead. No turbo, no diesel, no new engines, nothing to see here.

I can understand keeping the 5.3 since Dodge kept the 5.7 but I just don't see how they're going to compete power and torque wise with anything out there. The big shocker to me was keeping that raggedy old 4.3. Yeah they're good engines but for Christ sakes it's time to move on! they have better v6's, why not use them? This is just stupid. Welcome to 3rd place GM.

I am not surprised. I will laugh my arse off the day they release a bed step after making so much fun of Ford with it. Oh wait, they now have one. Give me a break. GM is so far behind they think they are leading. Lol...

Long story short they are playing catchup as always. Ford, Toyota, Dodge, and even Nissan with its 10 year old design are ahead of them.

If you have a chance, take a look at the pics. Instead of having to eat their words about picking on Ford's tailgate step, they decided to put cut-outs in the bumper.lol In other words, they liked the function of the tailgate step, but once they made that statement they couldn't copy it so they came up with their own version which will attract plenty of mud, snow/ice, etc. In my opinion they REALLY dropped the ball in the engine department and that will be the downfall of these trucks. As competitive as the full-size truck market is you CAN NOT keep sticking OLD engines in supposedly "all-new" trucks. Sure, there are a few diehard GM guys out there that will love anything they do, but I don't see them pulling any customers away from Ford, Dodge or even Toyota. That AFM crap has been known to consume oil since it came out in 2007 and they haven't fixed the issue yet, so what do they do? They put it on ALL of their engines, and not only that but the one GOOD engine they had (6.2) they have now ruined and jeapordized its reliability now. Good job, GM. Looks like I'll be going to Ford (I don't care if I have to travel out of state to get a deal) or buy another Toyota next time. I was being generous when I said welcome to 3rd place, when Toyota redesigns the Tundra it most likely will put GM in 4th place.

Well looks like you guys don't like the Chevy much. This Chevy owner will have to admit, Ford is #1 for a reason, and Dodge is coming on fast. I will have to admit if I was in the market for a new truck, I would probably be at the blue oval place, and might even stop at the Ram place to look them over.

Ill admit I am not a GM guy, especially now after the bailout. I have owned four of which two were awful.

That said, like the original poster stated, they had a opportunity to really do something new but just added features everyone else has.

Most of what they tout my 06 Ford and 08 Titan already have on 10 year old designs.

The engines are all new. They just share the same displacement with the old engines.

ok i must be missing something....How have they leaped forward. All the new improvements have been in use by other manufacturers already. The only thing stated new on their engines is comp ratio, VVT and direct injection. oh and they added AFM which most people hate because it consumes oil like there's no tomorrow and GM has never resolved the issue, just said "it's normal". I dont see anything significantly changed or advanced. their engines are all the same size too. I mean why throw all that money changing the 4.3 when you have a great 3.6 v6 motor in your lineup that is fuel efficient and powerful like ford did with the 3.7.
just my 2 cents, does anyone else feel the same way?

I was thinking they just bolted more crap onto the existing engines.
This coming from a 2004 Silverado owner, bowtie loving, Chevy fanboy who (Lord forgive me) would probably by anything but a new Chevy if I had to today.

You really need to read more about the engines. The new 4.3 literallyi shares nothing with the old 4.3.

I believe that all the 5.3 and 6.2 share in common with their predecessors is the piston pins.

I'm a Chevy guy all the way....prior to 2008 though. I've owned a 2004 and 2011 Z71, my 2004 was a good truck but the 2011 I only kept for a year and it was already starting to fall apart on me. My dad has owned a 76 Scottsdale, 88 Custom Delux and now has a 2001 with 246,000 miles on it. I've offered to buy him a new Chevrolet truck a couple of times and have gotten cussed out each time. He feels the same way about the "new" GM as I do. after 2008 he said in not so many words "they can shove it" and I tend to agree with him. if this is the best they can do with our tax money then they need to close up shop, NOW. this is an absolute joke of a truck.

I'll have to read about the differences, if I can find them. however, these engines are NOT what they were telling us was coming out though. they touted twin turbo v6's, a choice of v6 engines, kept saying the 5.3 would be replaced by a 5.0 or smaller displacement v8 similar to Ford's 5.0, etc. That's what they kept telling us! these 3 engines are NOT what they said they were working on. the 6.2 was fine like it was, I owned one, super strong engine with respectable fuel economy. they even went and screwed it up with all their bolt on magic fairy dust junk. did you also notice they are still offering their car-like gearing? 3:08 and 3:23. Good Lord. offer some @#$% gears already!!!

No THEY didn't. That was just typical internet rumormill at work.

GM has actually stayed very tight lipped the whole time.

I'd MUCH rather have a naturally aspirated V8 than a turbo V6 with similar power everyday. Especially with Ford's engine development history.

How do people not see EcoBoost as the same 'bolt on magic fairy dust junk'? It's a gimmick. The 5.0 is every bit the engine while being much simpler at the same time.

Well for me, I do not want to drive a truck that has the same engine that was in a 90's Blazer or s-10, I don't want to drive a truck with the same tired underpowered v8 that's been around since '99. I never thought the Ecoboost was the greatest thing since sliced bread, but for God sakes GM, EVOLVE. hello 2012, Ford, Toyota and Dodge are here where's GM? oh that's right, they're at the 2005 party.

well even if they do plan on bringing a diesel I can PROMISE you they will do it AFTER Ford and Dodge do it and have been doing it for a few years. then GM will be running around screaming "all-new! all-new!". uh, no, all-new means you came up with an idea that no one else had, it doesn't mean you dressed up your outdated truck and still lag behind the rest because your "todays" technology is your competitions "yesterdays" technology. this is most of the reason GM lost me as a lifelong loyal customer recently.

Dang, did you even read the press release? The engines are all-new and expect to lead the class in HP and torque. The 4.3L is completely new, an aluminum block and everything. It will even drop down to 4-cylinders using AFM. I bet the 6 is over 300 HP and probably more like 320 if you consider the HP of the smaller Camaro V6.

Why so much hate on the 5.3? Mine was super-reliable and I never heard one whisper (beyond the internet) of problems. Everybody who I know owns one had nothing but great service and luck. I'm betting that when you see the new HP ratings it will be close to 400 hp(380+) and torque around 400 lb-ft of torque. Probably just under 400 if they want to compete with the EB.

I looked at those steps when I bought my Ford....look nice but I bet they don't hold up over time. Plus it kinda takes away some of the utility of the tail-gate. I'm betting the step-bumper is much more useful in the real world. Of course, if you just pick-up groceries and the occassional sheet of plywood (like about 85% of truck buyers) I think the "man step" is a great idea. I would have to see the step-tailgate in person before wanting one though.

Also I noticed that chevy is finally offering the 6.5' box. Probably the #1 reason why I bought the ford. That and the room in the crew cab.

Last time I checked GM is the only truck MFR that offered a diesel in a REAL 1/2 ton pick-up from 1982-1999. I don't think any of the Big 4 (or 5 including Nissan) are going to do it though.
