I would hope that you realize that I was being somewhat sarcastic to make a point. I fully understand that grooved concrete on a boat ramp is there to improve traction. I would also hope that any reasonably knowledgeable person would know that ANY brand of todays pickups with 340+ horsepower would shred their tires on such a surface, especially when in low range with a 410 rear and that such a vehicle would have no problem pulling a 15,600 pound boat out of the water.

No way, not with that much tongue weight and grip. On asphalt maybe in a diesel truck but not on this rough concrete. You are going to snap a drive shaft or something. I don't think I could do it with my F350 diesel putting down 500 plus HP and about 800 ft lbs. That boat has 1, 800# of tongue weight on the bumper.

Say what you want but if the bailout wouldn't have happened Ford and all of it's suppliers would have sunk...Economics 101..Ford isn't as innocent as you say...

Give it a rest...it's gotten waaaaay old by now.

Belive the media hype. It was a vote getter. GM is not even in Forbes top100 employer.

This was nothing more than a union leverage.

Talk economic's. Try getting paid $.03 on the dollar for parts shipped prior to GM after the bailout. Thats fair...

Business 101 should have went like this. Bankruptcy, restructure, drop lines that don't make you money, come back leaner and smarter. Competition gains market share

Instead we get to pay for the same old thing.

Sorry DP, I have been around boats all my life. When the trailer is backed in the water deep enough to load the boat, the tongue weight is not all there, the water is supporting a good portion of it. You punch the throttle to the floor in low range with the type of truck I listed and the tires will spin and /or the boat is coming up the ramp.

Of course that is not a procedure I practice or recommend. Yes a drive shaft could break, but there is no guarantee of that.

It's not in a very convenient place for sure. It does have a nifty little place for the oil to drain down into the pan, only problem was that I had the pan under the wrong hole!! Made quite a mess. I'm not a fan of the filter placement nor the extra shrouding under the EB engine. Takes about 5 minutes just to get to the oil plug, you got to remove a bunch of shrouds first.

I just love how you harp and harp on all of GM's failures while completely omitting much of Ford's such as the 600-lb Gorilla that was the 6.0 /6.4 PowerStroke Debacle as well as the 5.4 spark-plug fiasco. If you put any MFR under a microscope you will find faults.

No, the only one I would work on would be my father's and he negotiated in all scheduled service for 5 yrs or 60, 000 miles.

Is it tough?

Chris

Regardless of all this, I hope these newer trucks aren't plaqued with problems. Can't get a new Diesel truck I like so I'm taking good care of my 5.9 Cummins. The new Powerstroke is said to be ok and the MPG will hopfully go up in the Cummins next year when they change the motor some.

Hope these GM trucks and F150s also do well without any reminder of the 1970-80s domestic autos. These new fangled diesels really have a lot of useless crap attached to the motor... Hopefully they figure out how to do it better over time.

+1 - Could not have said it better myself!

True! I will not be getting rid of any of my pre-tier IV diesels anytime soon.

Easy on Chris guys. I'm pretty confident in fact that he is telling the truth, as he had mentioned this incident a long time ago. Even with his distaste for GM, he's not the type of guy who has a data base of GM lies on tap.

My thought is this: That truck had 4wd and the Gov-Lok, which locks in at least three of the four wheels. Lets say bone stock, but if it has a cheap tuner, installed, even better. Guy backs in, hooks up, and pulls forward easy unitl the weight of the boat is on the trailer, and then stops. He then punches it (from a stand still) and shifts the gear shift into "1" in that order. Tow / haul in or out, does not matter in my experience. Torque management limits the amount of power. The driver probably punched it, didn't go anywhere, and never looked at the tach. Probably didn't get past 3000 rpms. This happend on my 2004 on weird occasions, but if the wheels had any momentum, even the slightest roll, TM was never an issue. Only from a dead stop. Tow/haul seemed to have no effect. 2004 and 2005 were the first years of the drive-by-wire and TM and there was all kinds of complaints about them. Most were fixed by a simple software re-flash.

BTW- a F550 with plow drove past our office with an incredible plume of blue-white smoke. I couldn't tell the year, as it was driving sort of away from me. Not trying to bash Ford, but just utterly amazed at the amount of smoke. Like a landfill fire. I hope the guy makes it home OK.

No problems personally with Chris. Just anti-gm rant getting tiresome. As mentioned before, he gives solid advice and helped me a ton when I was buying my 2006 F250. He does live in an area that was impacted greatly by the bailouts unlike myself. I just tune it out but tune in to his advice as it is pretty solid, especially with trailers. My 05 Silverado did something like this once. It felt like it was bogging down and hit 3k rpms with no results. I figured tourqe management was doing its thing.
