Just registered on this site and wanted some input into my purchase decision for new Kubota MX5200 with loader, square bucket, R4 tires, one remote, and block heater. I can get a 2014 model for $30,300 or a 2015 model for $31,000. I was informed that the 2014 model has an interim Tier 4 engine and that it did not have a particulate filter- is this an advantage? Are these prices typical for this tractor?

Thanks in advance for any input you might have.

although i've not done it, some say if you go to K website & build your tractor w/what you've described, then take 10% off, you can arrive at a reasonable price through your dealer. of course, location prices vary. in terms of interim vs full tier 4, my understanding is that the less current epa mandated technology, the less to go wrong. but only imho. best regards on your endeavor

If you are not concerned about how loud the tractor is and don't really care about your contribution to air polution, then you want the 2014.
I would jump on the 2014. Also, loaded rears are an absolute must. In fact, I would add factory wheel weights too if I had the chance to do it over.
It is a great tractor.

I'm not going to get into the air thing but luke is absolutely right about the rear weight. Our MX5100 just has the rears filled now and it's still too light in the rear, needs at least 2 sets of weights if not 3. I think it has a lot to do with the heavier loader with more reach. Our L3940 doesn't feel nearly as light in the rear with just loaded rears.

Every MX5200 we looked in the spring of this year had a DPF, maybe they were all 2015's. Found a dealer with 2 Interim Tier 4 MX5100's and my son decided to go with it, no DPF. I hope the seat on the MX5200 is much improved because the MX5100 seat sucks.

Thanks for the feedback to date. After further negotiations the price difference between 2014 and 2015 is minimal. In looking over the specifications for the MX5200 and comparing them to the L4701 I am wondering if I should consider the L4701 instead?

That would be an easy choice for me. But it depends on what you want you'll use it for. What features of the Lxx01 appeal to you? Put them side by side

Make sure exactly what models the dealer is offering. I believe all MX5200's are "final Tier 4" models, whether the date of manufacture is 2014 or 2015. The previous model, MX5100, was built to the old "interim Tier 4" standards. In fact, there was a run on sales of the MX5100's last year as buyers scooped them up when the new MX5200's were announced. Tractor manufacturers don't sell on "model year" like the auto companies do, and I think there's not going to be much, if any, difference between MX5200's built this year or last (besides some weathering if one of them has been sitting outside for a year). However, if there's an MX5100 available, that's something to really consider. Many/most folks seem to prefer the one without all the new emission doo-dads.

The L4701 is smaller and a fair amount lighter than the MX5200. Has considerably less loader capacity. Naturally aspirated engine; MX5200 is turbocharged and more displacement. There is also a non-turbo MX4800 for a little less $$.

I thought the same thing but looked at tractor-data... Take a look, it's interesting. When I looked at them side by side they appeared much different than the specs suggest.

Just negotiated the purchase of a 2015 MX5200 at a price roughly 13% off suggested retail price. I purchased the heavy duty round back bucket without the additional cutting bar as the bar was a last minute addition. I did not purchase the cutting bar with the idea I could buy a similar bar from another source -- dealer wanted full retail price + freight. I might check our local metal fabrication shop but is there any other sources that I might check out? Thanks to all for your input.
