Days are getting awful short

Yep - and cooler - thus added one or two days to dry. Usually we get two or three weeks this time of year with no rain - not this year. Ill probably tedd several times and see how thing go. Worst case there are two day of 50% chance of showers, then 5 sunny days after the 4 sunny days I have remaining now, so I can just role the dice. Wont be the first time I have been in this boat.

Problem is I have 15 acres waiting to be cut, that are still too wet. Tomorrow is another day and another forecast :confused3::D:thumbsup:

Finished the fall cutting yesterday. 137 bales here at the house and over 250 the last 2 weeks. 4x5's.

Hay Cat - have you ever looked into and Irrigation well? Might be the ticket for your place. If your Agg, the Federal USDA has grants and other cost sharing programs available, Around here they even do the design for free.

I have a well that could be used for irrigation. Problem is I don't have the legal right to use the water for that purpose. I have to buy the water rights from someone willing to sell. I am working on it though.

On a different note I finally found a good drill seeder. I've been looking for some time now. It took some grease and cleaning but all the gears turn and should work good in the spring. May 14th of 1952 is when it was originally bought. Got it from the original owner with the owners manual.

I am going to get new tires, and paint what I can without taking the whole thing apart. But I'm really happy to have found it.

Sweet find - is it and old JD? Who is going to ride the buck board and check the bins for you? :D The only thing I see missing is the drag harrow - evidence of it is still there. But that is an easy fix. You owners manual probably shows it. Did you get and seed plates with it? Sometimes those get rusty and heed a good cleaning/polish to get good seed flow.

Good luck on the water rights. You may wish to check with you state water commissioner on the well you have - sometimes they can change usage depending on the water table and original title. Some states also allow you to recycle gray water.

Good luck. If you need parts there is a dealer in Dove Creek that has a lot of old iron in their back yard.

Yes, it's a JD, Van Brunt.
Good to know, I have a friend that I worked with for 20 years that retired in Dove Creek. Built a really nice place on 320 acres. Geo-thermal, passive solar the whole works.

Those model "B" drills are good ole drills. Back when I was employed at JD dealership I assembled many, many of that and other model grain drills.

Real nice looking drill. Very similar to the Minneapolis Moline P3-6 drill I restored nearly 10 years ago. Except mine has the 48" diameter steel wheels. Bought two of these drills from a neighbor for $275. Used parts from both to make one good drill. Took several months to do the complete restoration. One drill had the dual trip clutches and the other was completely manual. So I added a hydraulic ram to the second one so I wouldn't have to have to pull the ropes to operate the trip clutches.

Nice looking set up. Question - where did you find the hitch ball receiver to fit the end of the old hitch? Or did you weld a bracket on? Could you please take a photo or two on how you did that?

I'm glad to hear they were good drills Jim. I'll get it in tip top shape and then it can stay that way since I'll be storing it indoors.
