Helping a neighbor. Stop light on the dash came on indicating that the exhaust was sooted up and the operator initiated cleaning process (found in the owner's manual) was unable to effect the repair. As defined in the manual apparently the soot is of sufficient volume to cause the engine performance to degrade.....can't maintain any reasonable RPM level. I assume that the problem is soot collected in the exhaust system. There is a 10" diameter x 18" long (approx.) canister right under the hood and part of the exhaust piping system. I am thinking that the problem is that canister is full of soot. Anybody have a similar problem and fixed it themselves?
Thanks,
Mark
