As with any “upgrade” in HP/TQ, I would suspect more wear to the drivetrain, and the rear tires ;)
I’ll bobble along in my standard output (370/850) Its more than ever needed to tow loads that would normally require a single axle road tractor.

Trust me, the standard output is more than you’ll ever need. It won’t be a speed demon, but with a trailer in tow, it‘s towing capability is superb.
I keep kicking around the idea of a tunner. Since Im bound to the CabNChassie rating of only 325/750. Which is leaps and bounds better than my old 05 with 325/610 paired with only a 4-speed.

Does everything I need currently, towing ~15k, and occasionally towing 23k total when moving a friends D3....but there are times where a little more oomph would be nice.....and maybe a little bump to my fuel economy. Just really cant justify the cost

I had a 2004 Dodge with a Cummins. It had a tuner on it, about the size of a wallet when I bought it. It was an early model, under the hood, and you had to move these little jumpers(looked like resistors) around to change the power settings. The newer ones are more convenient. I thought this thing is a joke, it doesn’t do anything. With it set to 0, stock tune, it was noticeably slower off the line, on level 4(the highest) it would spin the tires off the line. It doesn’t just make more power but the boost and power come on much sooner. It is obviously harder on the truck to.

You don’t need it. 325/750 is an insane amount of power. If it pulls what you want, leave it be.

^This!
My old 2004 Dodge/Cummins is rated at only 305 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. It effortlessly handles my big cabover camper while towing a trailer with Jeep. Or 20,000+ lbs of wood!

Especially when that torque comes on at lower RPM and doesn’t require high RPM to maintain

Exactly. That rating of 555 lb-ft of torque is at 1400 rpm so the engine doesn't need to run above a high idle.

Too bad they don't mate the Aisin with the standard Cummins. Interesting that the gas engine has an 8 speed, the diesels 6 speed.

They do in the cab & chassis 3500/4500/5500. Mine is a standard output & Aisin.
Yeah Ram has been hanging on to the Aisin 6 for a long time. I don’t mind it being an Aisin, but a few more gears would do wonders for the already outstanding Cummins engine. All kind of rumors out there regarding transmission replacement.

I do great with the Aisin 6, but theres the ongoing trend towards more gears for higher fuel mileage.

Unless Ford or GM comes out with something dramatic, I will be back at a Ram dealership for another. The GM is too big and the Ford still runs a V-8. I prefer I-6 Cummins enough to keep me coming back.

Nope, definitely not a "need".

Don't want nothing crazy if I did.....maybe 25-30hp and another 100ft-lbs.

Maybe more the level of the pickup tune.

And always hear people with tuners get 2-3 mpg more.

If a tuner was a couple hundred bucks, it would already be done. But the cost currently....I just cant bring myself to pay.

My personal experience was the tuner didn’t give me better mpg when empty. I drove with a pretty light foot. It might have given better mpg when towing, not sure either way.
