2016 Yanmar tractors YT359 iHMT

I had a conversation with one of their product guys about 6 months ago about front 3-points and he never mentioned it, but that doesn't rule it out. We'd need reversible gear-boxes here to run any rear PTO stuff on the front PTO unless they reverse them internally, which they don't do on the Fendt.

@Salix56-
Thanks for the photos. Great looking tractor. Your land looks reasonably flat. Do you have any issues with that full baler pushing you around? Any idea what that tractor weights? Does it have loaded tires? I've been running a ~8' Krone disc mower that weights about 1200lbs. Would you run something like that on your YT359?

I would try it, WollyAcres. If it's mounted, I'd probably keep the loader bucket on or add some front weights. I'm assuming your mower is mounted and not trailing or hydoswing. My mower is about 900 pounds and in transport mode it sticks straight back and handles my gravel roads in roadgear without bouncing around too much. The baler didn't push at all, which surprised me some. I wondered if it was due to the ag tires as opposed to R4. I baled before with a 50 HP Massey compact utility without a loader mounted and it pushed on the turns sometimes (tractor wanted to go straight) but never on the hills. Some of my prairie meadows are sloped and I had no problem baling up and down ... I was super careful baling sideways but it never felt anything but connected with the ground. Also baling down the slopes, you still have to back up to dump the bale and it had no problem doing that. The tractor with the loader on it is around 6800 pounds I believe. Its tires are not loaded. Thanks.

@Salix56- Thanks for responding. Yes, the mower is 3Pt and not hydro-swing. In transport mode it folds upright and it's no problem even behind our NH45. That smaller tractor will mow (on the flat) but we normally use a Case 1490 which is plenty big and very comfortable with that weight. We're considering replacing that machine with a newer unit and I'm curious if something this "small" would be viable. We normally use the Case to pull a 4x4 Krone baler. Wet bales are probably about 1000lbs. We sometimes use the NH to pull the baler on the flat when making dry but again, most of the time we use the Case. All the raking, brush hogging, and loader work is done with the NH. The Case is only used for cutting and baling; which actually turns out to be a lot of what we do.

Would you pull a set of plows with that machine?

@WollyAcres -- I would imagine that the Case would feel more comfortable with the cutting and baling because of its larger stance and weight especially on the hills. The YT certainly has the HP, but it might not be ideal on your ground. I can remember some pretty steep hay meadows in Ohio and PA.

The last time I did any plowing was up in South Dakota when I was busy planting shelterbelts around my place there in the late 1980s. I used a narrow-front JD720 Diesel and a trailing 2-bottom plow or a wide-front IH 656 gas. I don't really know that I would feel comfortable plowing for long periods of time with a hydro or hydro/cvt. I would definitely use a rotary tiller all day and have with a couple of HST Kubotas to no ill effect. If the ground was pretty fit I could see plowing with the YT, but I don't think that would be a strong point for the machine. The manual doesn't warn against it and the there is plenty of hydro oil cooling capacity on the tractor so heat isn't much of a factor like back in the olden days. But I still think of plowing as a job for a gear-drive.

Hi Salix56, just wondering how you and your yanmar are getting along. Well I hope. Any additional comments to share about this machine? Had snow on the ground here today but spring is on the way. Thank goodness. Only got enough hay for a couple more weeks!

I am still loving the tractor. I fed hay to the sheep with it all winter and I've regraded the lane after the early spring monsoon -- 13 days straight of rain. I used it yesterday to mow some new cross-fencing routes, drill post holes and carry hedge posts out to the pastures. Don't tell Yanmar, but I also used the loader to set the posts -- I like to give them a couple of piledriving whacks to get them firmly to the bottom of the hole. I also used the loader to press T-posts along the lines. Once I got that done, my sweetheart and I spent the rest of the day hunting for morels. And she was assembling additional hive frames in the morning, while I was fencing -- probably move up to around 10 hives this year.

The cab is a first for me, so you can imagine how nice it was this winter -- and in the rain. Being who I am though, on these 70 degree spring days, I wish I could just open the windows and let the breeze flow through. Also, it's my first 50-plus HP compact tractor and I can definitely say that I do not miss my IHC 656 other than the time-stamped memories and sound. At 60, it's pretty nice to have a chore tractor that starts right up without any confounded tinkering. I have a pasture renovator (kind of like a small sub-soiler) that I plan to hook to it yet this spring before the soil gets too dry and hard. Only four shanks, but should give the transmission and engine a bit of a workout. We'll see.

Thanks!

I'm really jealous of that YT359. It really looks like the cats meow. I went to the dealership, sat in one, and kept saying to myself.....one day, one day....:)

@Salix56-

Glad to hear you and the Yanmar are getting along. Much like Tractorable, I've had the pleasure of seeing one up close (didn't get to sit in it or drive it which is probably a good thing) and thought the same thing: someday....

I've used my old yanmar to help 'seat' fence posts as well, but in my case I don't think they'll care.

Not nearly as pretty as yours but the good news is she keeps on running.

Oh man. I'm thinking really hard about this YT359! -open station for me though. Nearest dealer is about 120 miles away though...I'd like to go at least look at one..the specs seem to be pretty good, but i know ya can't base it off that.

Also looking at the Kioti NX6010 HST, LS XR4155, However those dealers are also quite a ways from me...Closest one I've been able to see in person is the Kubota Grand L 5460.
