Anyone have a map of totality percentages and times of occurrence via locations? I'm finding A LOT of info., but not exactly what I need to ensure I'm outside and ready for it where I'm located [New England].

Thank you, /pine. That is the closest info. I've found so far. Google has just been a rabbit hole "about" eclipses.

We're pretty close to dead center here in Salem, I have a neighbor that has a spot at a private camp site about a half hour south that is right in the centerline. Saw that the governor is going to deploy the national guard here, considering the political climate here that should be interesting. Hope that everything goes smooth and people stock up beforehand.
My cousin in WY is near the center path in Wheatland, think they are expecting the state population to almost triple for the event.

The next eclipse you are talking about is in 2024. If your daughter is moving in to an apartment in town somewhere I would advise doing it early in the prior week, like maybe the Tuesday before the Eclipse, as traffic will probably be rather jammed up. From reports I've seen the nearest place to stay to Carbondale that isn't already reserved is in Effingham, IL.

She is going to be living in a dorm, so not much choice. We are staying in Nashville on Saturday and moving her in Sunday. Not sure how that will work out.

We live near path of max time of eclipse. Within a few seconds. Plan on having fridge full and vehicles such that won't have to buy gas or get out through weekend and Monday. Planning on observing from boat in a bay on Barkley Lake. No hotel space available for several miles. Groceries treating it like a snowstorm coming and expect to sell out of bread milk and eggs.

Nephew has an RV in nearby lake side campground. His neighbor at campground rented out his RV for weekend for over a grand.

We are in Western KY and on path. Near point of max duration of totality, will be a few seconds shorter than max of eclipse here. Local folks treating like a major snowstorm. Expect groceries to sell out of milk and bread and lines at gas stations due to tourist. All hotels for several miles appear sold out.


Our plans are to avoid groceries, restaurants, and gas stations.

Nephew has an RV at campground on KY lake. One of his neighbors at campground rented RV for over a grand for weekend to someone coming in to see the eclipse.

We plan on taking boat out and anchoring in cove to watch. Hopefully avoid crowds and man-made light that way.

Reading this thread got me remembering... and thinking. My buddy and I made a road trip to Goldendale, WA to view the total eclipse back in 1979. Decided to share the experience with wife this time. I just booked a hotel room in Corvallis, OR (might have been the last one!). Couldn't find anything in Salem! We will make the drive down on Sunday Aug 20 after my son's wedding that weekend. Need to get back Tuesday Morning to get my better half off to the airport.

This video brought back some memories as well...
