1630 has no relief valve but it has a stroke control valve in frt pump that's suppose to control psi. Check psi it should be 2250. I'm guessing one of the 6 o-rings in steering valve housing is damaged or in wrong place.

I've got the same problem but I changed the top seal and that fixed the leak but then I heard a loud "pop" like a Champagne cork popping out. And after that the oil was pouring out AGAIN.
So my question is: where does the pressure come from? Any ideas?

Many Thanks for your quick and kind reply. I guess Iｴll be going down to the dealer to pic up some O-rings and get into the right mood before I do this. Getting hold of/place new O-rings 16 inches down a badly lit tube is probably a temper tester of gigantic proportions....But then, who said life was going to be easy!?

Yes the 6 o-rings can make ones blood pressure rise while trying to install them in their correct lands(grooves).

Well I should send you a "virtuall cold beer" as a small token of my appreciation for your advice on the O-rings. Two were in one piece, the others in various state of deterioration. Anyway, I got into the right mood this evening and got the remains away of the old desintegrated O-rings and managed to get the new one´s in one by one, using a long O-ring hook tool and some piano wire with a L-shaped end to gently push them in. After having done 6 of them I felt very happy. The only thing I didn´t do today , was to assemble the steering shaft into the column housing again. Mainly due to not having enough lubricating oil on hand to push down the steering shaft correctly. Is there any need for checking anything before doing this? Or just oil the shaft and push it in?

I'd just oil the valve bodies and gently install them. Besides BEER OR Tequilla I accept CASH

:dance1:Hope you have better luck than I did. I rebuilt mine on my 2240 last year. It helped a lot. I can drive it down the road now but, it still has a high pressure leak and gets hot enough to burn you after a few hours running. Bought a brand new unit off eBay. It's going on this weekend as well as a new joystick for my loader. It was leaking also.

It's possible the leaking loader valve is causing the hot hyd oil. I would recommend R&R loader valve and test drive before R&R steering valve
