In between rain showers on Saturday, I was able to put up some of the girts.

On Sunday, the trusses were hung. It was a long, hot day, but they are all up and braced into place.

I used the T2320 to transport the trusses to the job site. The trusses were delivered without a phone call to me to see where I wanted them placed, so they ended up about 100 yards from the building site. I was also able to use the tractor to put up the two end trusses. The rest were placed by hand.

The tractor also came in handy stacking trusses inside the building. There came a point, after setting roughly 5 trusses, that we had to move the rest in the building and set them upright to be slid in place.

You can see the trusses on the left, clamped in place.

Horrible weather for summit days. Almost lost 3 of our team. I turned back at 21,000 with cerebral edema. Several were flown out during the trip with pulmonary edema. Nose tip and some finger tips lost to the cold (not me). Retinal hemorrhage. Other than that it was great!

It is a strange place. It is totally non-technical and really just big hike. But it is high and the weather occasionally can be a killer. I had a friend who summited a few weeks later...actually was awoken about 3am with the Chillean earthquake on summit day at camp Cholera (about 19,800 I believe). I hope to go again..maybe two years from now.
Peter

I have read trip reports similar to yours. For such a nontechnical mountain, it sure does have its way with a number of people who attempt it. I'm glad you made it back in one piece!

That barn is coming together nicely. I really like the high pitch..not fun to shingle but looks great.

Hey Peter,

Love the Barn... I REALLY like the open space around it! I notice there is no concrete. Do you plan on adding a floor later, or are you going to just stay with dirt? I'm trying to talk the wife into a bigger dog house .... 20x20 sounds about right to me.. hehehe. How about electric, are you going to have any outlets etc?

Carry on,
Phill

PS: you may have to upgrade to 60hp tractor to carry the beer for all the "free" labor!! hehehe

I like the high pitch as well, it is 12/12. I'm going with a metal roof, so I don't have to shingle, thankfully.

I will add a concrete floor later, currently it is compacted crusher. I will also have electric, but it is not a priority at this time. I need to get it enclosed so I can store the tractor and some other items in it. I have explored using wind energy as part of the electrical footprint, but I am a couple of months from making that decision.

The open space around me is very nice, and is a big reason I purchased the property.

With the engineered trusses, the loft floor space is 10x20.

You are correct about the free help, they were worth their weight in gold on Sunday, helping with the trusses.

When we had our floor poured, I had not dug a trench for power etc. I did think to set some foam blocks in the location where the trench would come up. Then the concrete guys could just pour and work the floor. The foam blocks sat on the stone base and the top was level with the finished concrete.

Later when I dug the ditch to run conduits, I just knocked out the foam. It left and nice neat rectangular hole. I ran four 2 conduits from the house and poured a little concrete around them. Worked nicely.

Very good suggestion. I will remember that.

I'm just surprised no one from the safety police called you out for the guy STANDING on the post hole digger to put more downforce on it. Rather dangerous imho.....
